Losers!: Boston’s Harpoon Brewery Is Serving Pints Wearing Giants Jerseys Today

Forget about senators betting lobsters and cheesecakes over the outcome of a football game – brewers do it with far more flair.

NYC’s Brooklyn Brewery had a Super Bowl bet going with the folks from Harpoon in Boston.  If the Patriots won, Brooklyn would have to pour pints of Harpoon IPA in their pub for a week while wearing Patriots gear, and if the Giants beat the Pats, the bartenders at Harpoon would have to serve Brooklyn Lager for a week while wearing Giants jerseys.

Well the G-Men won fair and square (that TOTALLY was intentional grounding!), and today begins Harpoon’s week of shame.  To rub their noses in it a bit more, Brooklyn Brewery president Steve Hindy is on hand at Harpoon for the kickoff event, and Brooklyn’s bloggers will be snapping photos of the “festivities,” at least until some patron goes all Rocky Marciano on them and punches the camera through their gawd dam New Yahk crahnium.

The folks at Anchor Steam in San Francisco know how the Harpoon employees feel, as they lost a similar bet two weeks ago and had to wear Giants jerseys while pouring Brooklyn Brewery Sorachi Ace for their guests. Nice!

Wearing a Giants jersey in San Francisco is bad, but it might actually get someone killed up in Boston.  Good thing it’s winter and people are wearing coats – those poor bartenders might not make it from their cars into the pub.

Check out Brooklyn Brewery’s blog for updates about the event.

Yah, yah, pay back’s a bitch, just ask the guys over at Denver Beer Co who had to have Jack’s Abbey beer poured over their heads after the Broncos lost.

Nice Rocky Marciano reference… But he was from Brockton.

      Close enough. 🙂

He would’ve rooted for the Pats!

True. I don’t come here for your sports insights anyway. What’s a crahnium?

I couldn’t wear a Giants Jersey for any reason ever, but I’ll agree that they won fair and square. The Pats D played well enough to win, and the offensive line got the job done as well, but the passing game, quite literally, dropped the ball. I would wager, however, that Gronk at 100% would have made it an entirely different game. All that being said, and on a different, though tangentially related note, do you think I’ll get beat up for wearing my Red Sox hat when the Sox visit Wrigley this summer?
