What Would Happen If Don and I Made a Beer Pouring Robot

robot-beer-pouring-fail

While Don and I are both good at dreaming big, we’re not very good at being handy.  One could blame this on genetic predisposition, or the fact that our dad had little patience for us fumbling up his honey-do projects around the house.  We were terrible apprentices and likely wouldn’t have learned much anyway.

Whatever the case, the robot in the video below is EXACTLY the kind of creation we’d come up with if we set our minds to making a beer-pouring robot butler (and if we were Japanese and enjoyed shouty, annoying manga characters).

It’s a fun idea, it looks good, and it works jut like many of the things I’ve built around the house (read: not at all).

9 million more years and I bet it will be perfected. It is cute though.

Agree it’s cute, but that voice has GOT to go!

And I like to think we can get it perfected in less than 9 million years. 8.5 maybe!

No thanks…even if they perfect it. While I’m highly appreciative of traditional Japanese culture (and Japanese beer), I’m not particularly fond of the more modern Manga, Anime, Hello Kitty, et al. Just too old I guess.

BTW: in the area of technology breakthroughs I was reading an article in the year-end edition of Discover about inserting artificial genes into yeast. One side benefit noted was the ability to build yeasts that would produce custom-made and unique beers. Now that’s technology I can get into!

That’s cool – another way for brewers to futz with flavor!

One more thing. I finally found an Oatmeal Stout to replace my beloved Wild Goose. Wolaver’s has one in its organic line of brews. Great stuff and I’m partial to VT beers, works well for me.

It great when you can fill a void left by a lost favorite. I have no go-to beer for when New Holland Dragons Milk isn’t available, and it kinda sucks.

By robot butler would wear flannel and tell me to get my own damn beer.

Reminds me of the Waffle Bot in the Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas.

“Hey, Beer Bot! These guys like Budweiser!”

“zzz they serve Budweiser in Hell”
