I recently shared a video of a craggy old man in jaunty house slippers opening a beer bottle with a chainsaw. Well, filmmakers Chris Sumers and Adam Young take it to the next level (at least variety-wise) with their short “Bottle Cap Blues,” a quick and fun film showing improvised ways of opening beer bottles.
There are many good ones (iPod, switchblade, motorcycle, etc.) but my favorite is when the fella tries to open a Miller (I think) by bashing it on a cow’s skull, only to wreck it in the process and throw it down in disgust. I think that’s how many of these attempts would end for me, as I’m not handy enough to open a beer using the blade of a machete or a pickaxe. Instead I’d have a sealed beer and eight fingers.
Enjoy the video, and much thanks to Bert Caldwell for pointing us to it!

Most horrifying: belly button.
And erotic. 😉
Growr!
Clever ways to open beer to be sure but I’m still inexplicably drawn to:
You have a spare for those times which require a higher production rate and you sure as hell won’t leave it behind or lose it between some seat cushions. Or will you?
What kind of twister is that now?
Clearly, what’s driving the success of these methods is the belief that the method will work. (And numerouse beers consumed before trying the particular method.) I am definitely going to try that garden rake. God knows I’m not using it in the garden.
I think you’re right – it’s all about the gusto with which you pursue the opening method. Except for that skull – lots of gusto and mostly broken glass. 😦
