Sam Calagione’s TEDx Talk: Looking Backward to Build the Future

.

.

Here’s Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione giving a 20 minute “TED Talk” about how his brewery looks back into history for creative inspiration as they try to reinvent what beer is all about.

I love TED Talks, which are usually given by enlightened people who have something interesting to share. If you’re unfamiliar with TED’s mission, here’s how they frame it out:

TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design… Our mission: Spreading ideas.
We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.

Hit up their website for more TED Talks – it’s good stuff!

I love TED talks and was wondering who’d be the first craft brewer to give one – figures it’d be Sam! Thanks for Sharing!

This looks like a local “TEDx” talk, not part of the full-on conference speeches that are given, so I think the “first” crown is still up for grabs. But this is certainly a good start.

I watch TED talks all the time. Somehow, I missed this one. Ironically, I think I can work it into a blog post for work. Thanks!

    Also…

Askinosie is located in Springfield, MO, not StL. What’s funny is that it’s the second best artisanal chocolate in Missouri. (Patric Chocolate – who supplies Norhtern Brewer and Jolly Pumpkin – being the best.)

And do you have a crush on Sam Caligione, Jim? It’s funny that no one has mentioned this before.

No mancrush, it’s just he’s always interesting.

No, I think you have a crush. There’s nothing wrong with that. I have a huge crush on Stephen Malkmus and I’m okay with that.

It’s not like I have a collage of Sam pictures pasted up on the wall of my office (that you know of…)
