Don and I fired up our cheap Logitech microphones once again to talk about one of our favorite things – libations that have spend time in barrels!
We review two selections from New Holland Artisnal Spirits, including their awesome Brewer’s Whiskey (Don drank all 375ml in a single sitting!). We also review Firestone 14 Anniversary Ale from Firestone Walker and a barrel-aged Laughing Dog Dogfather Imperial Stout. Not to give it away, but we loved them all!
All of this and us gushing about our new Glencairn whisk(e)y glasses on the latest edition of the Beer and Whiskey Brothers Podcast.
You can find it here on iTunes, or for you Apple-phobes, here on PodcastDirectory.com. You can also stream it to your computer on either site if you’d like to listen right away.
Enjoy!
Hey Don, Jim –
Long-time reader, but just started listening to your podcast recently, and wanted to chime in a bit on Tuthilltown. I agree that the price at Tuthilltown is a bit high for the size bottle they sell you (375 mL), and while I’ve never had the four grain, the Baby Bourbon is supposed to be their best spirit. You can’t go to a bar here in Brooklyn (or a restaurant) without seeing it on the menu.
Also thought you’d be interested in the experience that I and 14 other friends had in buying a 3 gallon barrel of single malt from Tuthilltown:

Great experience, though we were disappointed in the results:

On the plus side, one of our group used the empty barrel to age a homebrew barley wine that turned out pretty nice.
Also, in light of your new interest in American Craft Whiskey, thought you’d like to read this roundtable discussion by 12 whisky bloggers about the current state and future of the American Craft Whiskey movement:

Keep up the good work, I’m loving your blog and podcast!
