I’m excited that the weekend is upon us, as it’s been a long week. Last weekend was fun, but very busy, and next weekend is full of holiday stuff, followed by my son’s birthday weekend, the getting ready for Christmas weekend, etc. etc. This is the last weekend for a while that we’ll have to relax, and that’s what I’m hoping to do. I plan to chill out!
Besides some light puttering around the house, I’m hoping to enjoy a few tasty beverages this weekend. On deck are a couple of winter warmers: Founders Backwoods Bastard Scotch Ale and an Avery Czar Imperial Stout. Besides that, I might go out and pick up my beers for Thanksgiving. Oh, and the turkey and stuff, too.
How about you? Are you chilling out this weekend, or are you running around like a lunatic getting ready for Thanksgiving? It’s a wonderful time of year, but it’s a bit exhausting, too!
UPDATE: I totally forget (it might be denial) that Brew Masters debuts Sunday night at 10pm Eastern. I’ll definitely be watching and probably be drinking too much while I do. I think I’ll have to pick up something bittersweet to match the occasion.

That Bastard Scotch Ale is some good stuff. It’s got some nice kick and an aftertaste that sticks with you for awhile. Love it. I think I’m going to go easy this weekend with some Samuel Adams Boston Lager. Who knows, though, I might get ambitious and go for a run to pick up some Golden Monkey.

I haven’t had the Backwoods Bastard yet this year – I just picked up my first four pack (two actually) last night, and I can’t wait to dig in!

This weekend I will probably finish off the last of my Octoberfests (if they’re not all skunked), and maybe sample a Mad Elf or even crack open the Schafly’s Reserve.
I have lots of yummy goodness (as the wife would say) potentially lined up for the weekend.
I too have some Backwoods Bastard, put one ’09 and one ’10 in the fridge to see what happens to it after a year.
I grabbed some of the Sierra Nevada 30th Grand Cru yesterday and might have to pop a bottle of that and/or the Black Barleywine to see if I want to get another couple bottles while it’s still around.
I have a friend stopping for some beer tomorrow so that she can try a few things before I bring her to my favorite beer store so she can spend the gift card we got her for her birthday. I’m thinking some Belgians might be in order.
Then Sunday, time to watch my miserable Vikings again but at least I can drink away some of the pain while tailgating, probably some Finnegan’s (local beer that donates its profits to charity).
I think it could be a good weekend.
Going to the beer store a little buzzed is like going to the grocery store hungry, so make sure she takes it easy (or has room on her credit card!).
I wish your Vikes would fire Chilly and Frazier a chance to show what he can do with the team. If they win, it’ll be despite him – he’s totally lost the locker room. Frazier is gonna get a shot as a head coach and the Vikings are silly to not give him a chance. All that from a Jets fan. I guess I’m a football geek as well as a beer nerd.
Ugh, tell me about it. At the very least we have a chance at a free preview of how Frazier would be as a head coach without having to give him a big contract to find out.
I’m a huge NFL geek but this year has taken its toll on me.
But alas, that’s what beer is for!
It’ll be a mixed bag this weekend. Beer for sure as I’m picking up a single 4 pack that I found of Backwoods Bastard and I’ll probably dig into a Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin. Then throughout the weekend I’ll be enjoying some single barrel / barrel strength 7 and 17 year old bourbons.
I’m laying off the bourbon for now, I’ll leave that to the experts (like you and Don). It seems every time I have some, I mix it with beer and wind up unhappily gummy the next morning. It’s not like I go nuts with it, but it takes a toll for some reason.

I’ll be drinking more Beaujolais Nouveau 2010, and later tonight for our weekly beer chat, the “No Bull Inn” (on http://www.starchat.net at 11PM EST), I’m opening up a bomber of Terrapin Green, Very Green to start, and maybe some Sierra Nevada Celebartion—from 2006 AND 2010, just to compare!

Going a little mainstream and will probably work my way around the Sam Adams winter variety pack. I really liked the Chocolate Bock and Holiday Porter. Wish they made that stuff in six-packs!
Conformist!! Just kidding. I have yet to pick up the winter variety pack but will be doing so soon. I think most of them will fit the holiday and not make you fall into the turkey.
I’ve heard that their Winter Ale is actually quite good this year. I need to get some too! Have a good one Scott 🙂
Sunday I’ll tap into the Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Barleywine Style Ale… the 3rd in the series. I’ve had the first two, each on tap and they were awesome. I’ve heard the barleywine ale could age a bit, but whatever. Aging is for patient people.
Heading into San Francisco for a nice overnighter with my wife so it will probably be a wine occasion on Saturday.
Enjoy your overnight to San Fran. I had one last week – to an indoor water park in Pennsylvania. You win. 🙂
And I agree about aging beers. Unless I forget about it, it’s not getting aged, it’s getting enjoyed!
I drank cheap whiskey in a cabin in the middle of Missouri last night, and tonight it’s Spaten München Dunkel while watching college football.
Cheap whiskey isn’t always bad whiskey. I had some middle of the road stuff last night, Old Whiskey River, It wasn’t bad. A little light but not unpleasing. I also had a Old Ruffian from Great Divide Brewery…Ver Ver Niiice….
