As you may know, I’m visiting the Beer & Whiskey Parents here in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, a lovely part of the world just outside Milwaukee. And as you definitely know, I’m obsessed with beer and I’ve been foaming at the mouth in anticipation of trying some delicious brews I can’t get back in New Jersey.
Well the trip to the beer store has occurred, and as you can see above, it was a very fruitful trip. I was dying to get my hands on some stuff from New Glarus, so I got their Enigma, an oak aged cherry sour, and some Spotted Cow, an light and fruity unfiltered ale. Both are pretty awesome.
Ken from the Boise Brew Blog said I had to try some stuff from Central Waters, so I grabbed their imperial stout (I didn’t know a stout could be delicate AND powerful) and their Glacial Trail IPA. So far I’m really impressed with these guys.
I also took advantage of the fact that Bells is available here and picked up some Two Hearted Ale (quite possibly my favorite IPA) and some Oberon, which might be a bit overrated. It’s good, but nothing worth gushing over.
I also picked up a big bottle of New Belgium La Folie, a sour brown ale from their Lips of Faith line (listen to our latest podcast to hear why Don needs to try this beer) and four bombers of New Holland Dragon’s Milk, which I can’t find right now in New Jersey. Why did I get four? Because that’s how many they had! I also nabbed a Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus so I can introduce my sisters to the finer points of beer drinking.
So now my folks’ garage fridge is well stocked and my family thinks I’m an alcoholic – that’s a lot of beer for a week. But I’m sure it’ll all be gone soon enough, as my sisters seem particularly interested in what I bought and have already begun helping themselves to my stash.
Anyway, I’m excited to start working through my new collection of goodies and expect a few reviews to follow. So far, the best part of my vacation is the beer!
OK, I didn’t read anywhere in this post that any of this is going to make its way out to Idaho!!!!! Keep those greedy sisters of ours out of the stash and bring it to me! They don’t post, I do! Hide some and bring it to Idaho.
We’ll see. Mom was giving me all sorts of crap about buying so much beer, fearing her fridge would be full of it when I left. Apparently she doesn’t know her son (and daughters) that well!
Aparently she is suffering from Alzheimer’s. She should know it will all be gone soon. Especially if you have to spend a week there. Hell Caryn will probably drink half of the stuff!
I have an Oberon t-shirt that sometimes I’m afraid if I wear it might give the wrong impression…
Ha! I think it’s one of those beers that has to have a mental association with good times to truly be considered awesome. Or if your a poseur.
is there such a thing as a family vacation that doesn’t include beer?
Not anymore, Jeff. Not anymore.
I’m just thankful when I’m not reaching for the vodka 🙂
Why do you think I have so much Whiskey in my house?
Not in my family!
Its why I don’t have so much Whiskey in my house 🙂
Ha!
Good job Jim! Now that I think of it, I didn’t see any Dragon’s Milk when I went last week, and they always have it. Maybe you bought all of it that was sent to Jersey?
you guys need to try the bourbon barrel stout from central waters not sure if they bottle it yet but out of the tap so good. Seasonal only comes close to snow fall and it goes fast. Powerful beer too, I believe its around 8.8%
