The Long Cold Winter is Upon Us…

So, just like that,  no more football. While the Pro Bowl is a useless and unwatchable football game, it was always there to ease us into the oblivion of the NFL offseason.  It is the methadone to the heroin that is NFL football, a gentle step down the ladder.  But not so this year – it’s cold turkey for us all.

So what other excuse can we find to sit in front of the TV drinking in the middle of a sunny Sunday afternoon?  Movie of the week?  The Olympics?  NASCAR?  Or perhaps the NBA All Star Game as Don suggests? I don’t think so, not for me at least.

I’m not sure what I’ll be doing this weekend, but I have the unsettling suspicion it will be something productive.  There’s a garage that needs a good straightening, a shower that needs looking at, and school projects that could use a little parental jump-starting.

Oh football, I miss you already!  Now I have no excuse for being a schlub…

There’s always the winter Olympics 🙂 But I sympathize…already going through NFL withdrawal myself.

Yeah, maybe we’ll get into it this year…but I doubt it. My wife always tries to get the kids into the Olympics and they watch for about three minutes before slowly drifting out of the room. Maybe if there were more contact events…

Yeah, like the Winter X Games…doing flips on snowmobiles, shit like that. Though the hockey is good!

Yeah, they need to blow stuff up. That’d be cool. Put a flaming wall at the end of the bobsled run and rockets on the skates. Now we’re talking!

For me, it’s wait for the draft and the start of the regular season. March madness a little bit. It’s also a World Cup year, so I’ll be watching a lot of soccer later on. Still, nothing quite matches the NFL.

The real problem is my wife knows better, Mike. If I suddenly get interested in college basketball or soccer, she’ll call beer-drinking BS on me!
