I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you’ll have one less hour to enjoy delicious craft beers and artisinal spirits this weekend. That’s right – it’s time to “spring ahead” and change your clocks from 2am to 3am in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
I usually don’t mind this, as I’d trade an hour of sleep one night for several hundred additional hours of daylight stretching from March through November. Plus I hate winter (even the non-winter we’re having out east), and this is a clear sign that brighter days lay ahead. Woot!
I’m not sure what I’ll be marking the occasion with, but I’m pretty sure it won’t be whiskey. I got into the Knob Creek a little bit last Saturday night (and I mean just a little bit) and spent the first half of Sunday sweating in odd places. I won’t be doing THAT again!
Instead, I think I’ll stick to more gentle beers, and enjoy a couple of pale ales and pilsners. Ooh, and I just remembered that I have a bomber of Old Schoolhouse Imperial IPA on hand – I loved it the first time, so now we’ll see if it can live up to it’s own mythic status in my mind. The fact that I’m fickle probably isn’t working in its favor.

Beer & Whiskey Brothers 
My Black IPA, AKA Big Black Bitter, is calling my name. I also have a Odell Saboteur set aside to celebrate a friend’s pregnancy announcement (for the dad anyway). I’ll serve him the Saboteur or possibly a Canitllon Lou Pepe I’ve been saving.
Ha ha – nothing like drinking a good beer in front of a woman who can’t have one – my wife would probably kill me! A black IPA is a good idea – maybe I’ll pick up a Back in Black if it’s in stock at my local – I’ve been in the mood for that one.
I don’t think she likes beer anyway. My wife has declared that if we have another kid, I will have to go dry for the entire pregnancy. If we become preggers, I’ll throw a party and drink through my stash.
Wow, that would be rough. Hopefully your wife is a fast gestator!
C’mon honey, hurry up! Let’s shave a month off so the baby’s out by GABF!
Honestly, it would do me some good to take a step back and it would be an ideal reason to take a break and cellar some great beers for the birthing blowout.

I agree 100% – love DST! I think it should be the norm, and we do double-DST in the summer!
I’ll be at the Boulder Strong Ale Festival at Avery, but I have no idea what’s on the list! We only see what’s on tap when they hand you the list as you enter. It’s extremely stressful to allocate your 16 samples wisely to ensure that you’re not leaving out something special. I’m sure I’ll manage somehow. 😉
Sunday night I will probably still be in recovery mode.

I’ll probably be drinking the stragglers left in my fridge while I bottle my IPA this weekend. A couple bottles of Avery’s New World Porter (which was much better in the firkin than in the bottle), a can of Wynkoop’s B3K, some Alaskan IPA, some Compass IPA from Bristol, and I might even have can of Deviant Dales left somewhere in the back.
Firkin Rendezvous looks awesome. I’ll have to look out for that next time!
I once saw a movie called Merkin Rendezvous, but it wasn’t about beer.
I’m going to pop the Bell’s Hopslam I brought back to Cali from Arizona. I brought back a mix of 8 beers I can’t get out here and I’ve had a few already. Last night I had Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro and it is amazing how they got nitrogen to work in a bottle without a widget. I have a Modus Hoperandi and a few others.
I still haven’t gotten my mitts on the nitro Milk Stout, just the regular one, which in alright, i guess.

Nah, but that’s an interesting concept. Maybe some enterprising distributor or retailer could do something with that idea. Imagine the floor of an indoor brewfest laid out like the US w/ location-appropriate beers filling in the state boundaries–VT and DE would each have to have an annex though!
My favorite beer store used to be laid out by geography. It was really cool and highly educational to see all the beers from each state grouped together.

I heart them as well. I really enjoyed Better Half, even if it’s a bit hyped (can’t blame Founders for that – that’s their job!).
I’ll be enjoying some Deviant Dale’s from Oskar Blues, Silver medal winner at the 2011 GABF for IPA. Its a bit expensive for a 4 pack of 16 ounce cans. But when my REAL weekend comes along, Tuesday and Wednesday. Ill head up to Stranahan’s for a tour of the distillery!
I was at a beer festival this past weekend (the one I bitched about over at Today) and asked a volunteer over at the OB table if they might be pouring some Deviant Dales at some point. She looked panicked, because she had no idea what I was asking, like when you ask someone you didn’t realize is a foreign tourist for directions.
Anyway, i didn’t get any Dviant Dales and went on to write a snarky piece that pissed everyone off.
Good story, huh?

It’s just weird to run across folks who simply don’t get it. That’s new on me. Still, i think it’s okay to break a few eggs as long as the omelets are mostly tasty.

NOVA recently made it onto Great Lakes distribution route. I’ll be trying either the Burning River or Elliot Ness (the two of their four arrivals I haven’t yet tried). Should be a good weekend.

Schlafly is having their Stout and Oyster festival, and I might go. It’s very much up in the air, though, because it gets packed.
Wow, I hope they have enough space for everyone in the vomitorium. Stouts and oysters – what could possibly go wrong?!
Heh… they’re trustworthy oysters, as far as I know. But it’s awfully packed in there at those events.
Will they have an Oyster Stout there? I’ve always wanted to try one.
I think I’m finally over my winter-long bourbon-barrel-aged stout/porter obsession, so I think I might chill this weekend. The Victory Dark Intrigue I had last night was the last one I had in stock from my Christmas-time spending spree, and it truly felt like too much (too boozy, too strong, etc.).
Down the road this spring, I might try to gently reset my tastebuds with some mild IPA’s, Pale Ales and Ambers or Reds.
That’s how I feel about Mad Elf right now. It went from holiday nectar to sugary poison. Definitely ready for something crisp.

Last night I drank swill at a bonfire in the woods.
Today I’m going to get something good though. Will have to swing the local store to have a peek at what’s there. I’m thinking some Central City Red Racer IPA or maybe ESB.
Sometimes swill tastes good, like at campfires in the woods. Good times, good times.
Of course Dales or White Rascal tastes better…
Neither of those are available in BC, sadly. I finished work after the bottle shops closed so I had to mooch off others. Even swill is better than no beer!
I did try some Dale’s when I was down in Washington a couple of weeks ago, after all the praise they get on here. The Pale Ale was very tasty and would probably be in the top 5 beers I’ve had from a can.
