I Turned the Slideshow Thingy Off on the Home Page. Whaddya Think?

Hate to be a bother, but we need your opinion.

The blogging template we use has a “feature slider” thingy that displays our latest three posts in a flashy and animated way on the top of the home page.  While it was neat at first, it started to bug me a little.  The headlines were hard to read and covered over the images in weird ways.

Anyway, I switched it off for now.  What do you think?  Is the blog better with or without it?  Is it easier to see the latest posts with it switched off, or was it sexier with it on?  Please vote on the poll below and share any details you’d like to in the comments.

We really appreciate your feedback!

The slider would have been fine if the smaller thumbnails on the right clicked through to the post rather than simply changing the main slideshow image.

I agree – it’s a little dumb how it works now. I’d also like the text to have a solid window and NOT interfere with the image.

    Hey now.
I had a properly bat-sheet crazy comment in my “other” selection; where the hell did it go?

I dunno what you’re referring to, which makes THIS comment a little bit bat-sheet crazy!

        Now see here sonny Jim.
You have an “other” option in the voting with a space next to it, presumably for text. I entered text, though it seems now the space was provided only to see if I was fool enough to bother with it, which apparently I was.

This will be held against you in Denver.
        🙂

I think your comment was too long. I found the first few words buried in the bowels of the blog, down where we keep the fluoride and lightbulbs.

I agree with Matt M it took my 20 mins to figure it out the first time. Please note I’ve never claimed to be bright. It’s much more user friendly without the slideshow. I have a suggestion for you guys to make an archive list on the right hand side of your page. There have been days I missed entire posts because I clicked directly to your latest post thus missing the other posts you posted earlier in the day. With an archive list I could see all the posts you guys made and navigate to any posts I missed earlier in the day.

      Done!

Awesome! Now I can proceed through my day knowing I haven’t missed anything (at least from you guys). Thanks.

Not sure… I did like the slider a little, but just like any change I was confused at first and wasn’t sure which was the latest post…

Something about it didn’t quite seem right though… site looks good without it…

Thanks for the feedback Jorge. The slier is like a hot girlfriend with a crappy personality. It’s really awesome at first and then…not so much.

I guess I’m in the minority. I definitely liked the slider thingy. But like Matt says, I didn’t like that it wouldn’t take me directly to the article. That was odd. I wonder why WP would set it up that way.

They did it because they secretly loathe the people who use their platform and want to subtly punish us.
