We never imagined this would happen. It turns out that our little blog is being used as a teaching aid in college course – it may or may not be at The Ohio State University – the Google is a little fuzzy on this.
Anyway, they created a blog to explore “Representations of the ‘Family’ Across Media” and as Don and I are brothers, our blog somehow made the cut. So now we’re infecting malleable minds with our useless banter. In other words – there goes the future!
The best part (for us) is that the students have to read our stuff and then go back to the school’s blog and comment on what they found here. They’ve said some pretty nice stuff about us, which is gratifying until you discover that the other blogs they’ve had to read are about senior citizen care, homemakers and gay marriage. Of course they’re excited about a blog about beer and whiskey after that!
Some of the comments are pretty cool, as they are written by students for whom English is a second language. There’s a directness and grammatical quirkiness to these comments that are pretty neat. Here’s an excerpt from a student named Mei Cheng:
Originally, when I saw beer, I might think about some negative things owing to my bad impression of this topic. However it is looks like a much humors and interesting blog which one successfully catch my eyes. I have not too much experience about beer, but I know the attitudes towards any kind of wine reflect one’s attitudes of life.
In this blog, instead talking many problems related to alcohol, the author shows more warm things.
I think Mei sums us up perfectly – a much humors and more warm things. Awesome!
If you’re a hardcore reader of B&WB, you’ll probably get a kick out of some of the comments over there. Here’s a link to check them out. If you’re not, then I’ve just wasted a minute of your life. Sorry about that!

That is awesome! What a really great feather to put in your cap. And, the comments are like free market research. This especially grabbed my eye. Er… actually dragged my eyeballs. Or… whatever:
“One thing I particularly liked about this blog was the way it was set up. The full blog posts are not on the front page. Instead you get a preview and if you find the post interesting, you can click on it to read more. This prevents unnecessary scrolling if you want to skip a blog post. Additionally, it allows readers to see multiple posts easily and quickly.”
Yeah. I added a “categories” tab to the right hand column after the kids said we needed one. As you say, nothing like free market research!
That’s pretty cool! What happens when they find out that Don doesn’t really exist and is simply an expression of your other personality?
Then we get featured in Abnormal Psychology 210 as well!
Nice! I think they should get extra credit or trying the beer and whiskey you two review (if they’re of legal drinking age, of course). Furthermore, from here on out, I’d like to be graded on my participation here. O.K., maybe not. ;^)
You’ll be okay Chad, as long as we keep it pass/fail.
Its like those discover commercials. Tickets to the US $1,000, college tuition $20,000, your kid studying Beer & Whiskey Brothers priceless!
That’s true – there are probably a few very pissed off parents in China right now…
Nice input from a fresh source, always good. I enjoyed reading their comments.
I thought this blog was “about senior citizen care, homemakers and gay marriage”??
Senior care care = the blog gives Don something to do
Homemakers = if your significant other is home all day shouldn’t they be home brewing
Gay Marriage = gay wedding, straight wedding, pagan sacrifice all good reasons to drink
Why are visions of Dian Fossey, rain forests, and gorillas coming to mind when I think about a bunch of college students studying the activity and interactions that occur on this blog? Hmmm…
I was thinking more Timothy Treadwell, what with the bears and all.
That’ll work too! 🙂
Well congratulations! Your blog is actually really interesting there are lots of useful articles that we can use in time who would not praise and give thank you? 🙂 keep it up!
