Martha Stewart, Emeril and Craft Beer. Wait, What?

Consider my mind just a little bit blown by seeing a finely-picked selection of craft beers appearing in the Martha Stewart Universe.

There was an article a couple of weeks ago on Martha Stewart’s Radio Blog celebrating the new season of Cooking with Emeril, a radio show that appears on the Martha Stewart Living Radio network (I had no idea such a thing existed!) and hosted by Emeril “Bam!” Lagasse.

As Emeril’s new season started the same day as the 2010 NFL Kickoff, the show was all about tailgating “kicked up a notch” the Emeril way. He invited Tribeca Grill’s Executive Chef Stephen Lewandowski to handle the food suggestions and Birch&Barley’s Beer Director Greg Engert to pick the brews.

The result was enlightened-but-still-manly tailgating food paired with some seriously well-selected beers, including selections from Stillwater Artisanal Ales, Victory, and Nogne O.

My wife isn’t a Martha Stewart fan, so I have no reason to keep an eye on what the grande dame of fine living (and insider trading) is up to.  The only reason I know about this is I saw a link on Facebook.

Anyway, I’m I the only one who’s a little impressed that craft beer has wiggled it’s way into Martha’s Universe?  And that it looks so appropriate there?

You can check out the full post here. It includes a slideshow of the beers they tried during the broadcast, as well as a pic of the host and his guests looking a little buzzed.  I would be too, because these are beers you want to finish.

So Jim, does Martha Stewart go to your Boss for touch up? She looks younger every year. Or perhaps I’m just getting older and my standards are waining. Anyway, I’m glad to see this. It means that craft beer is becoming more mainstream and seeping into the consciousness of food pairing. Craft beer…Its a good thing!

Yeah, I’d say at this point you’d schtoop anything Don!

But it’s great to see craft beer being treated like food, as it should be.

She may not be the life of the party but uh… she ain’t too hideous, Don. Let me have the beers on the table and I’d be good. 😉

So you’d go for her once you put on your “craft beer glasses”?

All I said was she seems to be aging well, and my brother takes it to the extreme. To listen to him you would think I am hiding outside her bedroom window trying to get a glimpse of nipple. I just think she is holding up well.

You’re the one talking about nipples, Don. 😉

Schneider Aventinus and Victory Festbier… both solid choices. The others look rather interesting as well. Yet, I still hesitate to defer my beer drinking decisions to Martha and Emeril.

The really good part about this is that there was a third person that chose the beers. Also Emeril owns restaurants, so perhaps he is becoming aware of the need for a beer sommelier for his establishments. This can go a long way to legitimate craft beer in the mainstream.

Yeah, Martha might not know beer, but I still think it’s a nice collection of brews. I guess that’s why they bring in the experts.
