Whatcha Drinkin’ This Weekend: Vacation Edition

Well it is August, and many people who are currently employed are taking vacations.  I just got back from 5 days up north, and Jim is currently in Milwaukee with his family, visiting with my sisters and my folks.  He will then escort our mother back here to Idaho for my Son’s wedding.  Unfortunately Dad is too sick (long standing heart problems) to make the trip.  But there will be fun, and there will be drinking!

This weekend I will be taking it a little easy.  See when Jim and I get together there seems to be enough drinking for a small army.  So in anticipation of his visit next week I will be taking it a little easy.  Probably just hit a couple of brews I have in the fridge.  I have a Spring Beer from Ninkasi that I haven’t got to yet, so I think that will be consumed this weekend, along with more of the Four Roses Small batch that I cracked open a couple nights ago.

I know Jim will be doing at least one brewery tour when he is in Wisconsin.  He will have to stop in at Lakefront Brewery and probably get some Bridge Burner on tap.  He loves that stuff.  He might be able to get a pigtail brew too from one of their Bottling tanks…We’ll see.  Perhaps he will be able to get some of their Oak Aged Cherry Lambic while he is there too.  Let’s hope so.

So how about you?  Headed out on vacation?  Perhaps you are already on vacation and just checking in on the blog?  What are you drinking?  Any brewery or distillery tours planned?  As usual let us know in the comments.

Doing a hot dog and beer pairing party on saturday – not just normal hot dogs…my brother loves to cook and came up with 4 hot dog variations based on country (French, Belgian, Mexican and US). My job is to pair beers to the hot dogs – should be fun. I’ve already lined up some brews to buy and I have a few that I picked up yesterday – DFH Sah’Tea, Ommegang 3 Philosophers and the latest Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale (barleywine). Lots of stuff to taste for sure.

Sounds like fun Rob, all except the Diarrhea that comes with the Hot Dogs, but I’m sure they will be tasty going in! :-/

Sounds like a lot of fun and that you have it totally under control. Good picks!

I’m not going anywhere as summer vacation is over for the kid on Monday. I may go pick up a bourbon I haven’t tried. I’m thinking about the Four Roses Small Batch or the Wild Turkey Rare Breed. Haven’t decided yet.

Both are great Brandon. I think I might like the rare breed a little more, mostly because of proof. I tend to like higher proof bourbons. The Rare Breed is about 107 proof, compared to the Four Roses 90 Proof. The Four Roses was very complex though. I liked them both, and you really can’t go wrong with either.

Nice, I was leaning towards the Rare Breed after hearing the podcast. So I will probably be drinking that and smoking a cigar this weekend… surprise!

Is that out of choice or circumstance (i.e. nothing else in the fridge or on the shelf)? Sounds good either way. Have a great one!

Enjoy your brew day and you’re home brew, Tex.

I’ll be drinking and eating my way across the greater Milwaukee metro area!

Bought my wife a surprise bottle of Don Julio 1942. Wow, amazingly smooth and tasty! Damn well should be for a normal price of $130 (found a good deal online). I’ll put this tequila up against just about any high-end whiskey. Cheers!

I’d take you up on that bet, but I don’t drink tequila. Glad you found a good bottle for a good price. Enjoy!
