A Beer We Can’t Wait For

While Don and I were at Victory, we had a chance to chat with them about their collaboration brew with Stone and Dogfish Head called Saison du BUFF.  I cannot wait to get a taste of this beer.  It’ll feature traditional Belgian esters along with sage, rosemary, thyme and a few other herbs that are thrown in for good measure.  It’s sounds weird and good, and the video below has made me want to get some NOW!

Sounds good to me–always on the lookout for a good/weird new beer.

Out of curiosity, has anyone had the Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA? I have a friend who has a few cases and wants to sell me some, but I’ve never tried it. Is it, ahem, drinkable?

Dogfish Head 120 is quite drinkable, Chris. Actually, it might be TOO drinkable. It has an ABV of something like 22% and it goes down easy. It’s one of those beers that’ll sneak up on you and club you over the head! I would definitely try at least one, even though it tastes more like a barleywine to me rather than an IPA. Just pace yourself!

It could be a lot like Great Lakes’ Grassroots Ale.

Never had it, but it sounds pretty good if you’re drawing a comparison. I’m curious to see if they’ve put too much into this beer or if it’ll be balanced. Judging by who’s doing the brewing, I’m betting it’ll be good.

I personally liked grassroots a lot, so yeah…I’m gonna seek out the collab. Plus, stones collabs are usually spot on.

Hey guys. Had it the other night and I hope you like it. It was just okay. I wasn’t a huge fan but let me know what you thought. I thought it was very clean for a Saison and it could have benefited from bottle conditioning (both flavor and haze).

Thanks for the update, Mike. I’m eager to see if my imagination will match up with my taste buds on this one.

You know it is interesting on this one Mike, as the Stone version (I think) is the first one out of the gate. But all three breweries will be releasing it, and there will be regional differences, or so we were told by the folks at Victory. So if you weren’t that thrilled with the Stone version, there will be both a DFH version and a Victory version.

And that’s just how the breweries want it – buy them all and collect the set!

I’d like to see what happens with the others for sure.
