Sip With Us Saturday: Bourbon Aged Beers

We’re big fans of Nate and Mike over at ThankHeavenForBeer.com, and, strangely, they like us too.  So much so that they’ve invited us to participate in their famous weekly ritual, Sip With Us Saturday.  For the unfamiliar, SWUS is a great way to spend time together while being apart.

It works like this: The guys over at THFB pick a specific brew or a style of beer, and everyone has one on Saturday night.  It’s a fun way to share a common experience with your pals who are scattered across the Internet, across the country, and around the world. Nate also mentioned something about people from other planets participating, but everyone knows they don’t get the Internet in space.  That’s why it’s called the “World Wide Web” and not the “Milky Way Web.”

Anyway, I’ve gone off the rails a bit here.  This week, it’s bourbon aged beers, in honor of us, the Beer & Whiskey Brothers.  This will probably be the most popular SWUS ever, because who doesn’t like beers that have spent time snuggled inside a boozy oak barrel?  The answer is no one.  Everybody knows whiskey makes beer better!

For me, I have a Weyerbacher Heresy in the fridge that I’ll be cracking open Saturday evening.  It’s a real treat, a delicious dark stout made smoky and sweet through barrel aging. I just hope I can keep the cap on it until then.

How about you? I encourage you to play along with us and share the joy of barrel aged beers this weekend.  I also encourage you to tell us about what you’ll be having or, after Saturday night, what you wound up having.

And be sure to visit the guys over at ThankHeavenForBeer.com.  Those fellas know their stuff!

    Jim & Don,

We’re happy to have you along for the ride. We’ve been doing some form of the SWUS for almost as long as we’ve had the site. It’s really nice to get some consistent participation for people. It’s bound to be the most popular one yet because it’s at least 4.

Ha ha. Don hasn’t chimed in yet, so perhaps it’ll only be 3!

That’s okay, I’ll make up the slack by drinking several beers aged with bourbon on Saturday. Don’t feel special though, as this is a common occurrence!

I’ll drink something, but it will be in New Orleans, so who knows what it will be…

Yeah, I hear it’s hard to get beer there, so it’ll be a real struggle!

I’ll participate in spirit as I don’t have any bourbon-aged beers on hand. I hope that the THFB guys are aware of the B&WB guys new nudist writing style!

It’s not a new writing-style – we launched the site pants-optional and it just kinda grew from there.

Jim, drink the Heresy now… I have more for you here. Or, you could drink it now, and come and get something a little more “weather appropriate” but still aged in a bourbon barrel…

I’ll certainly be picking up more Heresy, Kevin. It’s like a hug from your mom in a bottle, that stuff. I’ll probably pick up warmer weather stuff, too. And a bunch of other stuff. I just realized, I’ll never be able to afford retirement, but I’ll always drink good beer!

Just don’t let me see you buying any of that fruity stuff… you worry me!

Alright, I picked my bourbon barrel beverage for the evening… B. Nektar Bourbon Barrel Mead. I had to just totally go for something different!

You tempt me sir! I really want to give that stuff a try. Maybe next time I’m in – I think Don will be with me.
