Troeg’s Nugget Nectar: It’s a Peach!

You know I love these stupid places.  I’ve seen the worlds largest buffalo somewhere in North Dakota…walked right under his testicles!  I’ve also made a pilgrimage to the worlds largest six pack  in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.  I have a picture of my wife and oldest son in a stroller, maybe that is why I can’t get him off the lagers, formative years and all.  I’ve even seen a Pink Elephant in Clinton, Iowa.  As a kid I went to the Barnum and Bailey Circus Museum in Baribou Wisconsin, lots of funky stuff out there, and it all seems to be in the Mid-west.  I guess the long winters, and lack of anything interesting in the landscape lead one to make huge replicas of ordinary things.  Think of it, the worlds largest ball of twine, the Corn Palace, giant animals and fruit, it all makes for a better travelling experience.

Yes, giant things always make for a lot of fun, and so do unique flavors.  Troeg’s Nugget Nectar has perhaps one of the more unique beer flavors I’ve had in a long time…or ever…

Troeg’s Nugget Nectar is an imperial amber which is a unique combination, and they do it so well.  As you can see the pour on this brew is actually very pretty.  I would like to maybe paint my bathroom that color, it is a deep rich orange color, and perhaps just a little peachy too.  It had about a one finger head that formed into a thin layer of off white foam that stuck around for most of the time I drank it.  Which, by the way wasn’t all that long, because this is a very drinkable brew that went down really easy.

The nose on this beer was straight out of an orchard.  It smelled a lot like peaches and a little grapefruit with a tinge of apple or pear dancing around in the background.  It was a very pleasing smell.

The flavor was light and crisp and had all fruitiness in it.  It was balanced with malt, but it really just served to balance but not flavor the brew too much.  Just kind of held it upright.  The flavor started out with peaches up front, then it turned to grapefruit and had an amazingly clean finish.  You could almost forget that there was any alcohol in the beer at all, not a little dangerous for a 7.5% ABV brew.  I could have drank a gallon of this stuff and been incredibly happy and drunk.  It is a very refreshing beer and I could see myself dinking about a case of them after mowing the lawn, or maybe before mowing the lawn, but I would probably crash my riding lawnmower into the house if I did that.  Who cares this is a great brew.  Go buy some and drink a lot of it.  It’s really yummy.

Best recommendation ever: “Go buy some and drink a lot of it.” Classic, bro. Stay off the lawnmower!

Don – that’s a hell of a recommendation. The pre-lawnmower approved rating! I’ve been tempted to try this beer and now I have no choice but buy it. Thanks allot man. 😉

I thought it was very good. Light and very refreshing. It was like summertime in a glass. It was really great stuff. Drink a lot of it, Scott. Buy a case. and no they aren’t paying me to say that.

Coming from Harrisburg originally, I can officially state on the record that Nugget Nectar is awesome. If you ever see this beer on cask, drop whatever you are doing and get it immediately.

I would love to Nick! Unfortunately, living in Idaho I will have to depend on the kindness of my Brother and the periodic shipments he sends from New Jersey.

Well, I’ll report that I bought a bottle of it today @ my local Total Wine. Looking forward to trying it on Don’s recommendation!

Your trips to see the world’s largest buffalo and six pack sound amazing – Troeg’s Nugget Nectar doesn’t sound too bad either 🙂

They were probably a little less than amazing, but they were fun, Try the Nugget Nectar, you won’t be disappointed.

Don, you should really join a psyops unit or something. Your ability to control people’s minds is uncanny. I didn’t drink it yet, but I will.

I agree…I love nugget nectar, and it’s not even my style. In fact, I’ll take it ANY day over hopslam, and it costs a heck of a lot less. I can a 6 pack for $11.50 as opposed to $17.00 for the hopslam. I too love the color…adds some complexity to the flavor.

It was way way better than I expected it to be. You’re lucky you can get it by you Nate. I have to depend on the kindness of my brother, and well…between you and me he can be kind of a jerk sometimes. Just kidding, but it is a hassle. I don’t expect any too soon, and if he did manage to sneak in a bottle with the Nemesis he is sending, I will be eternally grateful, and out of nugget nectar about 10 minutes after opening the box.

I can still get 22oz bombers of NN, Don, so I’ll send a couple (even though I’m a jerk). The last shipment was all 12oz bottles, which limited what I could ship.

I don’t think you’re a jerk, I even said so. Just trrying to keep you down.

I bet I would like this one. I like fruity but not overly sweet beer and the grapefruit really puts it at the top of my list to try.

Even in my weakened state I can say go get some and drink it tonight. I can’t but you should. Ughhhhhh! I’m going to bed.

Don, I’ve actually sat NN upon my desk here to look @ but I’m not going to drink it to prove to myself that I can resist peer pressure from sick dudes from Idaho.

    Be strong Scott. Be strong.
