Well it is Oscar Weekend, and anybody who is anybody will be out partying and having a great time into the wee hours of the night after the Academy Awards. One thing is for sure there will be lots of eating, and LOTS of drinking. Actors from across the globe will be imbibing to celebrate their victory or drown their sorrows, or just to be seen. Doing a little research for this post it seems as if there are really three drinks of choice. First and foremost is champaign, next is Vodka, and finally wine and beer (they get lumped together for some reason).
Well as for me and my house, I will be drinking Beer and Whiskey! I have a lot of new brews in the house, and a couple of whiskeys. Beer wise I might finally crack into the Full Sail Belgian Ale I have, or perhaps the Avery Fifteen that I found a 22oz bomber for $4.99! Awesome buy! I also have a Rogue Captain Sig that I am going to open for Sip with us Saturday over at Thank Heaven for Beer (One week late, but better late than never I always say). On the whiskey side of the house I’m thinking a Evan Williams Single Barrel bottle I have yet to open is calling my name, and I have $25 bucks that is burning a hole in my pocket and I might just need to go add to my bunker this afternoon at the liquor store. I’m thinking Irish Whiskey in celebration of St. Patty’s Day! Special post about this coming.
So what say you? What are your plans? Does anyone admit to actually watching the Oscars, let alone having a party? What are your drinking and brewing plans? I know one brother who will be brewing his heart out Sunday. Perhaps afterwards he will crack open a cold brew and back it with a nice whiskey? Have a great weekend all!

My answer is two posts below: Founder Curmudgeon Ale. Hopefully I’ll have one left over to send your way, Don. Better hope the kettle doesn’t crack or that the Bayou Burner tips over. I’d need lots of beer then! I’ll probably do a flight with the Weyerbacher Heresy I picked up. It’d be cool to try these two oaky marvels back to back.
I won’t be watching the Oscars, but will probably cozy up to Top Gear Series 12 on DVD. For some reason that show brings me deep inner peace. Strange but true.
The show brings out your inner gear head! That’s a lot of oak in one night! Might want to cut it with a little whiskey…Just to balance things out a little!
Why do I think I’ll be puking in the Beer Kettle come sunday morning?
Wow, see how I capped the “B” and “K” above. that’s reverence – I’m turning into a brew-nerd! Or maybe just and Inappropriate Caps User.
Jim right now you are a “Brew-Poser.” You have to earn the title of Brew-Nerd
Stone Old Gaurdian
Not a big barley wine fan myself, but I know a lot of people love the stuff. Tis the season for it too, so enjoy!
Just got back from the store and your blog has inspired me – picked up Dragon’s Milk and Java Head Stout, 2 beers recently discussed. You guys should get some money for promoting the beers you review. The weather may a factor though as its predicted to be in the 50’s which may inspire me to go “lighter” with a Jolly Pumpkin Bam Noire saison.
That all sounds great Rob. I think Jim will have some Dragon’s Milk too. I wonder who’s job it is to milk the dragon! Sounds dangerous.
You guys crack me up! Beer-Poser. Brahahahaha!
The Oscars? I’d rather watch paint dry. Anyway, nothing specifically planned – just like last weekend, but then I unexpectedly ended up buying some Celebrator and O’Hara’s Irish Stout. Then during the week I accidentally bought some Founders Breakfast Stout. I never know what will follow me home @ any given moment.
But, I can’t wait go get back out to the hiking trails! Maybe another couple of weeks!
Trails might be a little snow covered still. I bought an Ayeringer Celebrator this week too. When I saw the little goat ornament hanging around its neck, I couldn’t pass it up. I’ve been thinking about picking up a Rogue O’Kells Irish Stout, but so far have passed on it every time. I know you’re a closet Oscar fan Scott. You’ll be watching!
Perhaps Don. I think Celebrator is as good beer as any to have while not watching the Oscars! Its a great beer. We should do a colaboration review on it somehow after you settle down from the excitement of watching who won best romantic comedy or teariest tearjerker for 2009! 🙂
BTW, guess what followed me home today, completely unexpected like. A 6-er of Flying Fish Exit 4. Crazy stuff.
Exit 4 huh…Weird. Ended up going a different direction with it. Drank a Rogue Northwestern Ale during the Oscars, and drank some Sierra Nevada Pale ale, and way too much Wild Turkey the night before. 😉
Could drink some Oskar Blues stuff. I think I’m going sip a few things I’ve had sitting around plus a Jolly Pumpkin for the site.
Don, you will not be disappointed by that Ayinger beer…or most of their beers, actually.
I do have a can of Old Chub in the beer fridge, I could break that out for Oscar night. Looking forward to the Celebrator.
nothing…see my latest blog post. But I’m dreaming of drinking lots of things.
