It’s the weekend (well almost) and we want to know what everyone’s going to be having. For myself, I have to find the perfect complement to salty tears and the bitter taste of defeat. You see, my Jets are playing the Patriots on Sunday, and I think they’re going to get mauled. Sure they beat them in Week 2, but Brady played afraid (worried about his knee) and Moss was nursing a sore back. That’s all been sorted out, the Pats are pissed, and they are playing in Foxboro. My Jets are going down in flames. Perhaps a Storm King will help me weather the um, storm, or maybe I’ll embrace the bitterness with an Alpha Dog IPA. Or maybe it’s time for me to switch to Whiskey.
How about you? Do you having any plans that involve enjoying some great beer or special whiskey? Enjoying a Blue Moon (blech) before watching New Moon? Anyone brewing this weekend? Better yet, anyone drinking their own?
Please let us know in the comments below. And go Jets. Hopefully not straight to 4-6. Oof, it’s hard being a fan sometimes…

It could be worse Jim, You could be a Redskins or a Browns fan. Hell you could even be a Lions Fan having lived in Michigan for a time.
As for me, my Packers are playing San Francisco, and it should be a close game. The Vikings and Favre are taking on hapless Seattle so it should be an easy win.
I think I will FINALLY get to my Bourbon County Stout. However I’m not as excited about it as I was. I read the bottle and it is a lay down brew and shouldn’t be drank until 2011. Im breaking from convention however and will pop the cap off this weekend. I also still have a couple different bourbons to try. I’ll probably get to one of them for sure.

I’m off to Chico to visit the Sierra Nevada Brewery. I hope to enjoy some “Life & Limb” while watching the Big Game and the BEST player in the nation Toby Gerhart (Go Stanford!).
On Sunday, I’m bottling my Holiday Home Brew! It’s a good weekend!
Mike that sounds awesome. I have high hopes to actually get some Life and Limb because the Co op in Boise actually carries all the Sierra Nevada brews. It would be great to actually get some, so far the reviews I have heard are all outstanding. Enjoy your winter brew. That sounds good too.
That sounds like an AWESOME weekend, Mike. I’d love to sample Life and Limb at the brewery and it must feel great bottling your own. Do you give your beer as a gift to folks, or is it just for you?
Up, my Pats are gonna wipe the field green! 🙂
Tonight we’re recording Beer Brawl 28 – Belgian Quads with special Guest, non other then BWB own JIM! You got your hands full tonight Jim – http://www.simplybeer.com/blog/2009/11/19/beer-brawl%E2%84%A2-28-preview-belgian-style-quads/
Tomorrow bottling beer!
Peter, Maybe some day I could come out and you could have both Jim and myself at one of your brawls. Perhaps a brawl between various barreled beers! Now that would be epic!
Don
Yes, we shall brawl indeed, Peter! I’m excited to taste the line up tonight. To be honest, I don’t know what a Belgian quad is (insert VanDamme in a wheelchair joke), but I’m looking forward to finding out.
Well then you are a lucky man in have such a line up to try including the infamous, and extremely hard to find Westvleteren 12. So buckle your seat belt my friend, your in for a fun ride!
Don, as long as Jim behaves himself tonight 😉 You welcome when ever you are in Jersey. I’m going to be hitting up some of the other local bloggers to join us going forward as well. Good to get some new opinions thrown in the mix.
Well if it all hinges on my behavior tonight, then we should just scrap it now. 🙂
I’m not sure what to have yet. Tomorrow I am going over a friend’s house to watch UFC 106 so I might take some Victory Prima Pils for a good session beer.
Good call, Mike. I have a Prima Pils in the garage and it’s been whispering to me all week. I don’t think it’ll make it through the weekend.
Heading into San Francisco for dinner tonight, and we just happen to be dining across the street from the Rogue Public House. Still undecided on beers vs. spirits at this point. If beer wins, I am thinking the weather calls for either an Old Crustacean Barleywine or Mocha Porter. If I am moved to spirits, I’ll be partaking in a couple o’ fingers of Dead Guy Whiskey. Either way, I’m goin’ Rogue (and Sarah Palin can kiss my Klages Malts).
Sounds like a great idea William! You can’t go wrong backing a great beer with a good whiskey either. I say “why choose?”
I don’t know what yet but I will be drinking some good bourbon here in 6 short hours. I don’t drink when I watch football normally but seeing as my Redskins are playing the Cowboys I may have to have a belt or two to get through it.
I’m right there with you Dan. My plan is to go easy, but by halftime of the Jets – Pats game I might be hitting the Dogfish Head 120 I’ve been saving. My Jets are doomed!
Not sure what whats on tap for the weekend. First rainy day here in awhile so I am in the mood to go shopping tomorrow and pick up some winter brews. Giants play sunday morning so might need a bloody mary to get through that one!
I wish the games started in the AM here on the East coast. I think bloody marys sound like the perfect way to start the day – that tomato juice is packed with nutrients.
I’m up against Brady & Moss this weekend in my fantasy league, so I’m pulling for the Jets too! (even though I think Jim is correct about the outcome of that game)
On to the topic @ hand, lessee.
We had an exchange today @ work and we got Flying Dog K9 (their winter ale), Flying Fish Grand Cru Winter, Saranac Oktoberfest (?) and Sam Smith’s Taddy Porter. Only 4 of us this week, but I have some decent beer choices.
Sounds like some decent beers, Scott. I’m curious to see your take on the Saranac Oktoberfest. All of their stuff tastes the same to me, like they brew a massive batch of beer and then squirt in different flavorings to create their various brews. I’m wondering if this holds true for the Oktoberfest.
Jim, I think you’re right. I just kinda chugged the Oktoberfest without any intention of reviewing it – I’m so tired of them! Anyway, if I were reviewing it I’d say it wasn’t memorable really. Ho hum.
Had Flying Fish Exit 1 last night – the lastest in the Exit series – an Oyster Stout. Of the three so far in the series, this was my least favorite. I was expecting something different as far as a stout was concerned but it tasted like a watered down stout. Did you ever have such high expectations for a beer and when you finally tasted were so disappointed you were left confused and unsure where to turn? This was Exit 1 for me. I will not be discouraged to try the rest of the series as the first 2 (Exit 4 and Exit 11) were excellent.
I also got to try Magic Hat’s Howl – a schwarzbier. I recently tasted Cricket Hills version of this beer (Nocturne), MH’s version is far better. It poured a rich dark, almost black color with hints of smokiness in the taste. Smooth and creamy and at 4.6%ABV you can definitely drink a few of these at one sitting. I must admit that I haven’t been the biggest fan of MH’s beers of late – I thought they were much better years ago – but have to try new beers when they come out. The label is pretty cool too.
Between the lukewarm reviews and my wife’s allergy to shellfish (we share beers), I just can’t bring myself to pick up an Exit 1. Your review confirms this for me.
I haven’t had a lot from Magic Hat, as they are mostly session beers, but what I’ve had, I’ve liked. The Howl sounds interesting, like most schwarzbiers are to me, mostly because I don’t think I’ve ever had one. This could be a nice place to start. Thanks for the tip!
