Go Buy a Rock Art Beer (or Three)

RockArt LogoThe beer community has been all abuzz about Rock Art brewery and their fight with Monster Energy Drinks.  In a nutshell, the maker of Monster Energy Drinks, Hansen Beverage Co., has threatened Rock Art with legal action unless they stop producing and marketing one of their most popular beers, The Vermonster.

Monster Energy Drinks says its because of trademark issues, citing that consumers could get confused and mistake a delicious 22oz barleywine style craft beer with a tin can full of the mass-produced poisonous crap Monster pushes on kids. Goeff Kaiser of the Seattle Post Intelligencer covers the situation well on his blog, so I won’t go into too much detail here.

Instead, I’ll talk about how you can help.  Many are calling for a boycott of Monster Energy Drinks, which I agree with.  But if you really want to make a difference, I say go out and buy a Rock Art beer (or three) today.

mattandreneeMatt and Renee Nadaeu are fighting for their business against a merciless corporate giant with deep pockets.  Beyond the boycott and spreading the word about their plight, the best thing you can do for these independent brewers is to purchase their products and support their brand.

I’ve reviewed the Vermonster on this site recently (it’s awesome – go get one – today) and have had the good fortune of swapping emails with Matt.  He’s a fighter and intends to stand his ground here, but he’ll need more than moral support to do so – he needs your money.  His beers are awesome – you should go and get one (or three) today.

The best possible outcome for Matt and Renee and their employees at Rock Art is that their fight with Hansen turns folks around the country on to the great beers they make. Hopefully when this whole mess is over, Rock Art will be stronger as a result of fighting the good fight.  But the ultimate outcome lies in the hands of you, the consumer.  Go get one (or three) today, enjoy it and encourage your friends to do the same.

You can find Rock Art beers in Vermont, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and (oddly) Arizona.  If you live in one of those states or will be passing through, you know what to do.

Joined in the fight and picked up 2 from Rock Art over the weekend – The Vermonster and The Riddler. Only got to drink The Vermonster – WOW, what a beer! It packed quite a wallop; definitely head back for more and will share with friends. Looking forward to drinking the Riddler soon.

I enjoyed a Vermonster over the weekend as well, Rob. It really is a big delicious beer.

I also picked up a few other Rock Art selections, but not the Riddler. Please let us know what it’s like when you crack that puppy open.
