Beer and Whiskey Holiday Gift Getting Wiki: Let Us Know What YOU Want!

It’s the time of year when good little beer geeks and nice little whiskey nerds begin to dream and scheme about what they’ll be getting for the holidays.

We’ve decided to turn to this year’s Beer and Whiskey Brothers Holiday Gift Getting Guide over our readers, asking for your input about what you’d like to see under your Kwanzaa bush this year.

This is what the kids call a “Wiki.” For those in the know, Wiki” stands for “What I Know Is,” and in this specific case, it stands for “What I Know Is Don and Jim are Too Lazy To Come up With a List on Their Own,” but “Wikidajatltcuwaloto” just doesn’t have the same flow. 🙂

We’re not only lazy, we’re selfish, so this isn’t a gift GIVING guide – this is a gift GETTING guide! It’s a chance to dream about all the great stuff you want, sort of like flipping through the back pages of the old Sears Wishbooks of years gone by.

So take a moment and share with us the things you’d like to get (or give) this holiday season.  Feel free to include a picture or a link if you want to make it easy for others to find the item you’re sharing.  Also, let us know what you think of everyone’s recommendations, as this might make it easier for a non-geek to ascertain if it’s a good match for the beer and/or whiskey nerd in their life.  We’ll be sharing our ideas and thoughts as well.

Have at it, and thanks for making the holidays a little more merry!

Here what our tweeps (ugh) are asking for on Twitter…

The new embed function is looking good! Can’t wait to try it out.

    A Brew-Magic V350MS System, at only $6,000, it’s a bargain!

    • December 9, 2011 at 8:36 am #

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Got a link?

      • December 9, 2011 at 8:49 am #

        A couple –

        Sabco’s page: http://www.brewmagic.com/products/brew-magic-v350ms-system

And, my Wet Behind the Beers blog: http://52beers.wordpress.com/2011/12/02/oh-santa-id-love-a-brew-magic, which has the Sabco link and a YouTube video of the brewing system in action.

You could buy a bunch of six packs for $6K (plus the cost of the ingredients), but it wouldn’t be quite as much fun as making your own from scratch.

        • December 9, 2011 at 8:55 am #

          That’s what I’m talking about!

        • December 9, 2011 at 9:34 am #

I totally want that. Do they make a gold-plated version?

        • December 9, 2011 at 9:54 am #

Alex, that might be the WilliamsWarn Personal Brewery. (https://52beers.wordpress.com/2011/06/14/214/)

And it’s all yours for $(NZ)5660 or about $4632 American (not counting shipping or airfare).

        • December 9, 2011 at 10:52 am #

That is pretty cool looking, but it takes all the fun out of the process!

        • December 10, 2011 at 11:29 am #

          Alex,

I agree with you about the WilliamsWarn Personal Brewery. It’s a little too automated for my tastes. It’s like “driving” the Autopia cars at Disneyland, there’s not much to do and you can’t get off course.

I got one of these Beer Not Bombs bottle openers from the company. They are made from disarmed weapons systems, and I think that’s cool! http://www.beersnotbombs.com/

we were actually contacted by a company that makes these (not just for Lagunitas) and asked them to send us a couple so we could do a blog giveaway. We never heard from them again…cheap bastards! But they are totally cool.

In reality, I’m not asking for anything brewing related. Brewing is taking a backseat this spring to Comprehensive exams and Ultramarathons. I’ll still drink a lot though. I asked for running stuff and more importantly, money so when I’m on the East Coast I can bring back some goodies to KY.

        Don,
It’s a little more high tech than that. Although, in the summer, all I wear is a smile.

        • December 9, 2011 at 10:04 am #

And here we were trying to make a nice holiday guide and we get you naked with Sam Calagione, Don and a jar of Nutella. Thanks, John. 😦

          But not at a GPO event…I assume…

        • December 9, 2011 at 10:17 am #

GPO shirts are all high collared for a reason. Big sunglasses also required.

You ladies should consider burka’s – you can never be too careful when there are guys around!

          Pink Burkas….I’m on it.

        • December 9, 2011 at 10:22 am #

I still have a mustache mug from back in the day (early 70’s), when I sported a handle-bar. (The intent is to keep the mustache wax out of the contents of one’s cup or mug, i.e., keep the ‘stache out of the suds.)

      See:

I’ll bet you used to get into a lot of fights. That’s what guys with Handlebar Mustaches used to do, get into old timey bare knuckle boxing matches and kick ass.

        • December 9, 2011 at 11:06 am #

LOL, not too many by then–I was too busy making ends meet by working 3 jobs simultaneously.

  7. December 9, 2011 at 9:58 am #

I still want an immersion chiller so I don’t have to rely on snowbanks to crash my wort when I home brew: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/standard-chiller-3-8-x25-with-vinyl-tubing.html

  8. December 9, 2011 at 10:13 am #

Easy! I need secure storage. For the beer I need this:

    http://www.compactappliance.com/DBC2760BLS-Danby-Dual-Zone-Beverage-Refrigerator-Center-For-Bottles-And-Cans/DBC2760BLS,default,pd.html

And for the booze, I need this:

    http://www.wineenthusiast.com/howard-miller-shiraz-hide-a-bar.asp?icid=RESULTSRCNTLYVWD

And people call me difficult. Pfft!

    • December 9, 2011 at 10:14 am #

Nice fridge, but you can’t lay your beers down!!

      • December 9, 2011 at 11:35 am #

I realize this. Looks like it has adjustable shelves.

  9. December 9, 2011 at 10:48 am #

Top of my list is a stainless steel fermenter; no more transferring from primary to secondary. And of course more room in the house to put it.

    http://www.williamsbrewing.com/7-GALLON-FERMENATOR-WITH-TRI-CLAMP-VALVES-Free-Drop-Shipping-P2017C135.aspx

I would also like more time off to visit more breweries.

How bout a Ska t-shirt for when it’s too hot to wear my long sleeve Ska T:

    http://skaswag.myshopify.com/products/classic-dancers-t-shirt

And finally, if someone in Maine would send me a six pack of Andrew’s Pale Ale, I’d reciprocate with something they like from Colorado. 😉

    • December 9, 2011 at 11:18 am #

Cool shirt and sweet fermentor. You’d probably be breaking a civil ordnance or two with that puppy – it looks serious!

      • December 9, 2011 at 11:37 am #

Yeah, and that’s the smallest one, they also have a 27 gallon version!

  10. December 9, 2011 at 11:04 am #

I want to raid Bill Sysak’s beer cellar.

    • December 9, 2011 at 11:17 am #

I’ll be your wingman on THAT mission. Maybe we can hit his fridge as well…

        December 9, 2011 at 12:07 pm #

I’ll bet you could take several brews, you know some of the more obscure ones, and he would never even know you were there!

  11. December 9, 2011 at 11:12 am #

I’d also love a beautiful custom mash tun like this one:

I’m asking for a Northern Brewer gift certificate so I can add two faucets to my kegerator and upgrade from the picnic taps I’m using now. It’s amazing to have draft beer on tap at home, but I imagine it will be even more satisfying to pull my pint from a proper faucet.

  13. December 10, 2011 at 2:27 pm #

    Dear Santa,

I’d like an approved change of use permit from the city for our building.

…and the boil kettle back in good working order if it’s not too much trouble..

    Thank you,

    Jeff

I’ve asked for 3 Perlick faucets and a temp controller some can finish my kegerator. Beer on tap at home is awesome.

This isn’t really a wiki. It’s a comment thread. Just sayin’.

    • December 13, 2011 at 1:13 pm #

BTW, I just favorited a ton of stuff on Etsy after searching “beer.” There’s t-shirts, openers, glassware, one-gallon homebrew kits, soaps, vintage signs and other memorablia, etc.

    • December 13, 2011 at 1:57 pm #

It’s a wiki -thread then, dammit!
