NutLiquor Vodka. Get It? Nut Liquor?

Who doesn’t like the idea of a nice NutLiquor?  Me.  That’s who.

Now before I begin to rant about how stupid this 69 proof peanut butter vodka is, I must say that I haven’t tried it.  Maybe it’s delicious.  Maybe I’d be a huge NutLiquor fan and hang out with other NutLiquors, all of us slurping down this nut-inspired nectar like a bunch of drunken squirrels.  Who knows.

My problem is with the cheesy pun of a name.  Stuff like this always makes me crazy (or, you know, nuts – zing!), when it seems that a product has been created to fulfill a sophomoric name some advertising manchild has come up with instead of out of a demand in the marketplace or a distiller’s ingenuity.

On the other hand, this could very well be someone’s baby, one which they labored over getting just right, only to have some smarmy marketing slickster come along and give it a name that only the ladies and a few guys who play for the other team will appreciate.  What dude wants to order a NutLiquor?

Anyway, I bet this stuff would make for some interesting mixed drinks, as the peanut butter flavor is probably a welcome addition to the mixologist’s toolkit.

But over all, ugh.  Just ugh. Is this what we’ve come to?  NutLiquor?  Really?

What’s next? TequilaMockingbird? AbsintheMinded? SofaKing Imperial Stout? Ugh, ugh and ugh.

I just had a Peaotch (peach beer) from Terrapin and Left Hand last night, and have to admit, the name hooked me. The beer was pretty good, too.

    • November 4, 2011 at 2:36 pm #

I like that – listen up, peotch!

      • November 7, 2011 at 2:03 pm #

I actually suggested a name to one of their people a while back – we southerners stick together. Unfortunately, DePeache Mode wasn’t quite as popular.

A clear sign that they lack vision. But don’t feel bad, they didn’t like my ex NYC mayor / talk radio inspired brandy called “Koch in Yer Ear” either…

        • November 7, 2011 at 2:19 pm #

It will take a true visionary to hire me for my marketing genius.

        • November 7, 2011 at 2:27 pm #

          Or an alcoholic…

        • November 7, 2011 at 2:28 pm #

          One and the same.

Finally! A Vodka for the Gays! It’s about time, don’t you think?

    • November 4, 2011 at 2:36 pm #

      Umm…

I hate gimmicks, I’ll avoid this one, good or not.

    • November 7, 2011 at 2:32 pm #

Yeah, the name is a huge turnoff. If it was called P-Nut Vodka, I’d say “interesting…” but with a name lie this I feel I’m violating some internal ethic by tasting it for free…

Nutliquor. Too bad it doesn’t come in a small cloth bag. A sack, for instance.

    Nutliquor sack.

    Hehehehe.

    God I am so juvenile.

      Yes, yes you are. 🙂

I bet it will pair well with my latest concoction Labiapricot Schnapps.

      Oof.

My beer supplier and I recently had a long discussion about all these flavored vodkas. Our assessment: another product line for people who don’t really like booze. Basically just more alcoholic soda pop.

BTW: while stocking up on stouts this afternoon, I noticed that he was carrying a new product, which in my opinion may represent an all-time low: a peanut-chocolate stout! (I don’t recall the name as I was too busy warding off the bad ju-ju.) Fortunately, a 4 pack of TenFidy (in cans) restored my equilibrium.

    • November 4, 2011 at 4:56 pm #

Ahh Ten Fidy to the rescue. It’s like hitting the reset button when the world starts getting a little too fancy. Good call!

Jim, guys aren’t suppose to drink it, they’re meant to dip their, er… “chestnuts” in them. 😉

Can’t say I go for flavored vodka to begin with, definitely won’t be trying this anytime soon. I’m sure some enterprising bartender will come up with PB&J-tini.

A friend of mine actually had a band named TequilaMockingbird here in Denver.

    • November 4, 2011 at 4:57 pm #

It’s a great name for a bar band, but an awful name for an adult beverage.

And I think you’ve confused NutLiquor with the NutWasher…

      • November 4, 2011 at 9:50 pm #

All that punning reminds of a sign I saw years ago at the MD State Fair: “Cow Wash”.

Dogfish Head makes a peanut butter vodka that’s actually pretty tasty. But, I agree on the stupid name of this one…

    • November 7, 2011 at 2:33 pm #

I’d like to sample that one, so I guess it’s the name!

Can’t say that peanut-butter flavored booze interests me but I wouldn’t diss all flavored liquors… Stoli Pepper Vodka does have a very special place in my heart…Straight up, right out of the freezer…Mmmm…

    • November 6, 2011 at 11:11 pm #

I can see red pepper vodka–especially ice cold–cause your mixing a number of contrasting sensations together. But I see no redeeming qualities in say, cucumber, tomato or peanut- flavored vodka (or beer).

S’far as I can tell, vodka (most are pure grain alky mixed w/ distilled water) itself has no discernible flavor and since I’m not looking to get blitzed, drinking alcoholic beverages for the sake of the alcohol holds no attraction for me. I’d much rather sip a Greek, Cypriot or Georgian (the country, not the state) brandy, a single malt scotch or KY bourbon–none of which need to have additional flavors added to make them palatable.

    • November 7, 2011 at 2:33 pm #

I don’t mind the concept, just the stoopid name!

      • November 7, 2011 at 8:17 pm #

Well that makes one of us!

Maybe you should try something before you write an article….just an idea.

    I tried it….very good actually!

    • November 15, 2011 at 2:14 pm #

I bet it is – I like the idea of a peanut vodka (why not, right?) but the NAME is awful – a stupid pun that spoils the whole thing for me. So to be clear, it might be awesome, but I think the asshat who named it should be doused in Axe and set ablaze.

I want to infuse chocolate cupcakes with this vodka. The name is horrible, but it is the only peanut butter liquor that I can find.
