Happy Birthday to us! Hooray, we’re two. That’s right Don and Jim are about to enter the “Terrible Twos.” Actually I never really thought they were too terrible (having been through them 4 times with my 4 boys). It is a time of learning and growing and figuring out your place in the world and who you are. That is all pretty heady stuff for a two year old, but it is more or less what they do at that age. That is why there are the tantrums and mood swings, one minute they think they are growing up and feel like a “Big Boy” and the next they poop their drawers.
Of course, what keeps Jim and I going is the interactions we have with all of you. So in keeping with that interactive thing we got going on around here, I thought I would ask if there is anything you would like to see us discuss or do in year three? We have tried to keep this blog one part information, one part newsy, and one part Idiot, but I’ll be the first to admit, the Idiot part takes more than its share around here! I like the mix. We do some reviews, we talk about news, we discuss relevant topics in the world of beer and whiskey, but what else would you have us do to make this blog all you want it to be? Let us know in the comments, and we’ll keep being Idiots.
-Don and Jim
There needs to be more back-and-forth between you two in the actual posts. Sure, you go at it in the comments, but I’d like to see more posts where you two jut argue the entire time.
Happy 2nd, BTW! My second is coming up in like six months. It’s hard to keep a blog going that long, much less a successful one (something I know nothing about).
us either! Perhaps if we could record our phone conversations! That would do it. We also stopped doing podcasts, I think they may have to make a comeback, that might give you the banter you are looking for!
If I let Don co-write my posts, they’d be as awful as his. 😉
Agreed!
Happy birthday! Truthfully, I don’t think you guys need to change one iota. But since you’re askin’, I’m taking it as “What would make BWB perfect?”… I’d love to see an index of beer and whiskey products you’ve discussed/reviewed. I’ve come here several times after finding something new and wound up doing a search for it to see what the BWB Expert Opinion™ was about it. I guess it’d just make it easier for me.
Also, in your two year history, how many BBW search hits have you gotten? Do you avoid referring to yourselves as BWB so as to not get those BBW hits?
Jim’s gonna have to answer the hits thing, Jim likes it when he sees people have actually searched for B&WB. Does his puny little heart good I guess. You are lucky the search feature is even there. When Jim upgraded the look and feel of the site he neglected to put that up, until I needed it to find a previous post! We’ll see what we can do. Thanks for being such a great participant, and “community Leader” here at B&WB. 🙂
Don gets more “Bear” hits than “BBW” ones, but that’s pretty obvious by looking at his picture.
Also, there’s a pretty good search function on the site. It’s what I use when I want to link to old posts and have to dig ’em up!
Mostly “Dancing Bear” hits Jim…
I’m definitely adding “Community Leader” to my resumé. It’s going right above “Dancing Pirate #6, Pirates of the Caribbean”.
I’m sure Jim and I would be happy to be a reference! “Work, mmmm…dunno, but he drinks like a fish and blogs all day long” Yeah, that’ll help.
Happy BDay Boys! Thanks for keeping me entertained and informed. I never thought I’d seek craft beer wisdom from someone in Idaho but, hey, the state has a floating green so why not a legitimate craft beer & whiskey guru?
I actually enjoy the public abuse you slap at each other in the replies – makes for a more natural argument…er…discussion.
Cheers! What’s on tap for each of you to commemorate the occasion?
@TheAlemonger
I’m actually taking it a bit easy this month…Doctors orders. So I will do a couple whiskey tastings etc, but not too many beer things for a while. Tonight I might commemorate by drinking the last match up in round one of the single Barrel Showdown…Knob Creek SB v. Wathen’s SB.
It’s probably for the best. Your strength lies in complaining about new-fangled beer doo-hickies and whatnot. You’re the beer blog world’s version of the cranky man hollering at kids to get off his lawn. Best stick with that. Not drinking much should help put you in the crankiest of moods. 😉
Sometimes I think it is ridiculous, I can drink all the Diet Coke I want, but not a beer! Heavens!
I like him cranky, too, Zac. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t like him at all!
2!
I’ll drink to that!
I believe I will too…Diet cokes for everyone! Yea… 😦
I would like to see a more robust comment section with the ability to sort by newest first and better (collapsible?) threading. I agree with your sentiment that the most enjoyable part of the site is the discussion you spark with your posts, but your posts have a short shelf life for discussion because the most recent comments are buried at the bottom. Thoughts?
Jiiiiiiiiimmmmmm……..
I’d say scroll down. 🙂
Diet coke? Yecchhhh! (That crap they put in diet sodas can kill ya–did you inform the doc that you only drink healthy beers?) But anyway, Happy Twoth!
I too love your Blog (obviously), but if I had a wish list it would include regular blurbs outlining your take on what various beerisms (i.e., lacing, finish, etc.) really are/mean (and if the two of you disagree on the meaning that wud be icing on the cake!)
I also wudn’t mind seeing more blurbs on the history of brewing and whiskey distilling. (What can I say, I’m a history nut and since DFH is no longer on the air…)
Finally, I’ve never seen any indication of a mailbox where we can send you a message independent of responding to a Blog. If you have one, great, direct me to it. If, not, please consider it.
That is the irony. The stuff that is a mix of chemicals is “good” for me, and the naturally brewed beer is “Bad” for me. Although I’m sure if you would ask her she would say to lay off the Diet Coke too. Historical posts are interesting, but a lot more work. We learned that early on. If you go back to our posts from a couple years ago, you’ll see we were far more serious. Now we just make shit up.
Congrats guys!
I think I’d like to see more bears on the blog, you know, bears drinking beer, bears brewing, bears brewing questionably marketed beers for women and lady-like men, bears doing keg stands… 😉
More Bears…Less Jim!
I had a bear in my yard on Saturday. I was outside the garage and the bastard walked up 10 feet away from me. I like them better here on the site.
Maybe I need to do a post on that – cleaning the garage, beers, bears, etc. It has it all!
Congrats, guys… thanks for the entertainment.
Thanks 🙂
Congrats Lads! Don’t change a thing. Highly interactive, entertaining, and informative. And the price is right!
Looking forward to more in Year 3!
Cheers!
G-LO
Thanks G. It’s been a labor of love. Hope things get even better in year 3.
Congrats on the Bday! Keep up with the great content and I look forward to reading your blog for many years to come.
Cheers!
We need some guest bloggers if this thing is going to go on for years! What you got FatCat?
I just posted a barleywine shootout if that sparks your fancy.
Link?

I like the topics and the interaction you guys have going on… I never see as many comments on any other beer blog but this one… great job!!
We love our visitors, thats for sure, so as long as you keep leaving the comments we will keep responding to them. Thanks for the kind words Jorge.
Plus most of the comments are Don and I poking each other with sticks.
Bears, Boobs, and Beer. That’s all I ask for.
I’m kinda sad I’ll miss you all at GABF, I was planning on brining a bunch of my beer for you to have. Guess I’ll drink it myself, I understand.
In all honesty, thanks for your blog. From it, I’ve gained other blogs to read and and waste more time at work. If I get fired, I’m sending Jim a nasty note and writing on his FB wall “Jim suck!”.
Maybe a Don and Jim collaborative brewing in the works? Or maybe, an article describing if Jim has become a man yet (see Mini Cooper post).
I think you should write on Jim’s Facebook wall today, because yes, Jim truly does suck! I think we need more boobs too. Obviously Jim and I can’t be the only ones on this blog!
To collaborate on a brew would mean that Don would have to do it, but that’s NEVER gonna happen!
And I’m a man, just a fancy one. 🙂
It’s a belated birthday here to you boys. Congrats! But could we visit a whiskey festival sometime?
Eventually. 😉
