It’s Friday Afternoon, Whatcha Drinkin? :Father’s Day Edition

Well the weekend is almost upon us and it is Father’s Day on Sunday.  What are your plans?  And what will you be drinking?  I’m thinking about taking my youngest fishing on Sunday and perhaps relaxing with a nice drink and a great cigar.  I have just received a new bottle of Wild Turkey 81 and I will definitely be taking advantage of that.  It is only 81 proof, and was designed specifically for mixing.  I had a couple Whiskey Cokes with it last night and they were dynamite.  Great flavor of  Wild Turkey without the harshness that can come with the 101 proof.  I think of it as “Session” whiskey. 😉

Lots to do this weekend too.  We got our pool up and running for the season and are now filling it and letting the sunshine warm it up a bit.  Nothing like jumping into a 58 degree pool!  Yikes, shrinkage!  So, although it won’t be ready for this weekend, the anticipation is great for clowning around and floating in the back yard.  We got a new basketball hoop for the driveway a couple weeks ago so now we are looking at setting up the old one to be a pool hoop.  Could make for some fun pool hoop action!

What about you?  What will you be drinking?  Anything special planned?  As usual let us know in the comments.  Have a great Father’s Day Weekend everyone.

Just picked up some Victory Storm King and Ommegang Hennepin. Should be a good weekend.

Sounds great Justin! I have a Hennepin from las year I just never got around to drinking. I think that’s about to be remedied!

I’d prefer pork chops and eggs over medium for breakfast with some thick, Texas style toast but I’m okay with cereal. I’d like to go shooting afterward but whatever the kids have in mind will be fine. I’d like to see a late lunch / early dinner combo and I don’t mind if I have to cook it. Afterward It’s going to be a generous snifter of Glengoyne 17 and a Padron Family reserve 45.

The last two items are not negotiable.

@Justin Nice score. Enjoy them. I think the Storm King is spot on.

Sounds like a nice day Jeff. I too will be cooking my Father’s day dinner. Pulled Pork Tacos! Love street tacos for dinner!

My Houblon-Chouffe clone is ready for drinkin’, so I’ll have some of that. Still recovering from last weekend’s Great Divide Anniversary party, so I’ll probably take it easy because I’m a wuss. Happy Father’s Day, Don and Jim. Don’t let your kids grow up to be like me!

That’s right, not a wuss in the bunch! Jim already has his daughter hittin’ the hard stuff! Sometimes I wish I home brewed, but then again, I really think I wish some home brew ferries would come to my house brew the beer, clean the mess, bottle it, and magically age and condition it so I could drink it the next day. Oh wait, I guess that would be a lot like opening a bottle and drinking it.

Homebrew is awesome until you have to clean it up, thats the only real work. The rest of the time your drinking, I mean cough cough brewing. Happy fathers day to Don and Jim along with everyone else.

Well, just picked up some Schlafly APA for cheap, which is good for this law student, so it’s a good one so far! I thought about you guys when I saw this article on USA Travel…http://travel.usatoday.com/destinations/10great/story/2011/06/10-great-places-to-get-a-craft-beer/48509014/1 I mean, I know my dad would love beer for father’s day! Like father like daughter I guess 🙂

You’re a good daughter Jacklyn if you ar thinking about beer for your Dad. My guess is he would just like your company best while you are in school. Once you are a rich and powerful attorney his expectations will increase! 😉

Happy Father’s Day Don! Have so far had a Founder’s Rye PA thanks to the very generous Limpd. Tomorrow involves a kiddie party, the end of T-ball, and then my eldest (he’s 6) is “taking me out to dinner”. I believe we’ll be headed to The Pour House in Westmon, NJ. Guess the wee one is gonna let his dear Papa have a beer and a burger. Such a nice boy! Sunday will be a visit to my Papa for some dinner and hopefully a beer or some wine. I hope to squeeze in some whisky on Saturday night with the other Dads or at the very least, so Sudsy Sunday brews on the patio.

Just make sure you don’t have to drive anywhere for fathers day! Sounds like an excellent line up. Enjoy.

Sounds like a nice weekend. So far it is raining this weekend. Can’t get out to do yard work, but I went ahead and put my year old Hennepin in the fridge for later. Should be a good one. Also gonna hit that WT 81sime more. I love that stuff. So smooth and makes a mean whiskey coke! Have you ever had Scapa 16? Had that a couple weeks ago and fell in love with ir. Unfortunately I’m pretty sure they don’t sell it in Idaho. Have to get my hands on some a different way! Have a great weekend.

      • June 18, 2011 at 11:05 pm #

I think I have had the Scapa at a whisky tasting. An Orkney whisky like Highland Park I believe. WIsh I could say more about it. I’m sure I liked it. 🙂

        Enjoy!

Been lurking around, new to commenting … my wife surprised me with a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 23 year for father’s day! It is everything it is cracked up to be.

Hey Pete, thanks for chiming in. I’ve never had the 23. People say its woody, but a lot of people like that flavor profile. I’d love to try it! Your wife must love you a lot! That is about a $300 bottle. Good to see she knows what is important.

It is woody, but I think it is balanced very nicely. In addition to the charred oak, I found vanilla, caramel and leather in the flavor profile.

I am not sure waht I did to deserve the bottle, but I sure would like to know so I can do it again!

The funny thing is that I live in KY, about 50 miles from the distellery and she had to go to Indiana to find it. Go figure.

That is funny Pete, because they usually keep the good stuff in state. Perhaps they sold out.
