Off Topic: Waving at the Bus

This is pretty awesome and something I thought you’d all get a kick out of.

There’s a guy who has been hilariously embarrassing his 16 year old son each morning since September.  His name is Dale and he’s a stay-at-home dad in American Fork, Utah.  His son Rain’s school bus route changed this year, bringing the bus right past their house on the way to the high school.  On the first day of school, Dale stood in front of the house waving at the bus as Rain went by.  Rain was totally embarrassed, which pleased his dad to no end.  So the next morning  Dale was out there waving again, but this time he was dressed as a San Diego Charger.  The following day he waved again, but this time as Anakin Skywalker.  This happened every day for the entire school year, with each day bringing a new costume and fresh embarrassment for Rain.

Dale’s wife created a blog with a picture from each day and a funny caption.  You can find all 170 days athttp://www.waveatthebus.blogspot.com/ – go ahead and click – it’s great stuff.  I read about it at the website of Salt Lake City’s Dessert News, which has a really nice article that covers the situation and features interviews with Dale and Rain.  You can find it here.  Both are worth a read for sure.

What does this have to do with beer you ask?  The fact that Dale has a prosthetic leg technically makes him a peg leg, as in Heavy Seas Peg Leg Stout.  See?  It’s ALWAYS about beer!

Hilarious! I hope I can embarrass my future kids like that. He must have spent a fortune on those costumes.

I guess I’ll also share something awesome I saw today:

Actually he spent less than $50 – most of his props were borrowed from neighbors. As his wife says on the blog, you’d be surprised to find out what’s lurking in your neighbors closets.

Ah, I missed that. I was too busy looking at all the funny pics. That seems like a pretty fun neighborhood, then.
