“What Beer Should I Drink?” Flowchart

Usually these beer related flow charts don’t get too deep into craft beer territory, but this one is different.  They even give a nod to Sam Adams Utopias, for folks who have “$500 of Beer Love” to give.  Nice.

The origins of the chart are a little fuzzy, but I think it’s a collaboration between Eating the Road and Top Cultured.  Actually, it looks like the Eating the Road guy is now a food editor at Top Cultured.  Whatever.  I just want to make sure I give credit where it’s due.

I followed my flow and wound up in the craft beers on the bottom, but I got uncomfortably close to landing on Pabst Blue Ribbon.  I think I’d better stop wearing so much black!!

How about you?  Anybody want to come out as a Parrothead?

I stopped at Molson and Labatts – damn, I had to be a hockey fan!

    • October 4, 2010 at 10:51 am #

Nothing wrong with Labatt’s or Molson. I went to high school in Michigan, and Labatt’s Blue was my go-to beer. Also, Molson Brador is a pretty nice treat if you can get someone to smuggle some in for you.

And it’s better than almost qualifying as an ironic hipster. Thank god I traded in my messenger bag for a backpack!

I do enjoy Labatts – makes me feel real Canadian when watching hockey (there must be a subliminal signal that gets sent from their brewery when hockey season starts…”must drink Labatts…must drink Labatts”)

Probably all that subliminal programming you received while watching “Strange Brew”!

Its situational. I have a friend that every time he goes to a Cubs game all he wants is a hot dog and an Old Style. He is as big a beer geek as the next time but Cubbies and Old Style just go together for him. Much like Labatts and Hockey do for you! 😉

so you can only drink Stone, Dogfish head etc. if you didnt graduate from college? I got stopped at Sierra and Stella becuase I use reusable bags!!!! DAMN

    • October 4, 2010 at 10:53 am #

Well, Sierra ain’t bad! I’m lucky there’s not an “Over 30 and plays video games” because I’d be stopped dead. It’d probably be Newcastle or something.

I almost got stuck on Landshark, then decided I liked craft beer more than Jimmy Buffet and got down to the bottom! Glad I’m not a frat boy, or trying to save the planet…those people gotta drink crap beer!

    • October 4, 2010 at 11:36 am #

      You chose wisely!

I got stopped at re-usable bags too, it could have been far worse! That was fun, thanks guys!

You’re lucky you’re not headed to a tailgate party!

I briefly took a detour to the “Are you having a dinner party?” group (not a bad place to be), but then remembered that it’s been at least a year since my wife and I entertained at home. Whereupon I readjusted my bearings and landed safely on Valhalla, aka the “Love beer but NOT $500 worth” group.

    • October 4, 2010 at 7:42 pm #

Sounds like a close call, Mark! The way I look at it is I start in Valhalla and then make everything else fit. Going to a tailgate? Craft beer! Living in the projects? Craft beer! Drinking from a funnel? Craft beer!!

I might’ve made that last one up, but you get the idea.

I made it unscathed to Stone Brewery, unless ‘knowing how to access the Stargate’ means tuning my DVR to Stargate Universe, in which case I’m only 20% of the way to beer nirvana.

I’m not sure Andrew…just knowing the name of the show might qualify you for Stargate access. Hmmm…Better spend less time on the Scifi channel and more time in the pub…If you know what I mean. 😉

      • October 5, 2010 at 11:42 am #

There’s not much in the way of neighborhood pubs where I live in Mississippi, but I promise to drink a Rogue Dead Guy the next time I watch Stargate. That should absolve me.

Forget the flow charts if you want a great new IPA. Get yourself Sam Adams Latitude 48 IPA. You’ll thank me and drink it forever!!

Gonna do that in spades. SA is coming out with a new 12 pack that has 3 latitude 48s and then 3 single hopped beers each representing one of the hop varieties in the Latitude 48. Kind of a deconstructed 12 pack.
