Top 20 Drunk Driving Cities In America

Even though fatalities are down over 7% this year, drunk driving still accounts for about one third of driving deaths in America.  The nice inforgraphic above (courtesy of Jalopnik) shows the 20 top cities in America which have the most people with a DUI on record.

Apparently strict enforcement and lots of young people (who are most likely to be idiots) is the best recipe for getting on the list.  That makes sense to me.

The data for the infographic can be found at insure.com.

Were number 1! Honestly, it’s sad. Locally here in San Diego it seems like every night there is a new story on the news about someone killed by a drunk driver. Usually, it’s the innocent people that end up dying. For whatever reason, the Drunk Driver always seems to come out of the accidents unscathed. Just the other night, a drunk driver plowed into a guy and killed him no less than two miles from my house. The guy was a father of 3 young girls. Even more frightning was that I was on the same road no less than 10 minutes earlier with my three year old daughter in tow. How hard is it to have a transportation plan? Take a friggen cab.

    Good topic.

Stuff like that scares the crap out of me, David. I have two little kids and anytime I see something like that, the news report plays in my head “Mr. Galligan leaves behind two small children and a wife…” Awful stuff. I agree – get a cab.

Surprising the New York City is up there, what with all the subways and trains and cabs available….

It’s a big metro area and the police are pretty aggressive – just look at Braylon Edwards. I think it’s a population density thing.
