Well the circle is complete. What started four month’s ago with Stone’s version of Saison du BUFF has come full circle with Victory Brewing’s release of Saison du BUFF. Having never had any of these, I hear they are all very different, and they are all pretty tasty. Of course I haven’t heard anything about the Victory release yet because it is so new, but I understand that the Dogfish Head version is slightly better than the Stone version.
The jury is still out on the Victory version, but I must say it is a little anticlimactic. Perhaps because I live in Idaho where we don’t get any of these, or perhaps because summer is waning right now and I am beginning to grow tired of Saisons and IPAs, but I don’t feel the excitement around this third in the series of releases that I did for the first.
I hope its good. It probably will be, but I’m not convinced that this has been a true collaboration. Like when Russian River and Avery produced their Collaborate not Litigate, that was about as pure a collaboration as you could have where each brewery made a beer, then they mixed them and sold them. This has been more artisnal with each brewery having pretty much free reign as to how they produced their version.
So nice the see that the circle is complete, but on the other hand I didn’t really get what this collaboration was all about and I’m not really sure I’m sad it has come to an end. Maybe next time (if there is a next time) they could put their brewing heads together and come out with a true collaboration that blows our minds. Until then…here it is, Victory’s Saison du BUFF…Woop.

I have a Stone version set aside for you, big fella. I’ll get my hands on the other two and maybe we can do a podcast on this.
Or maybe I’ll drink ’em all myself! 🙂
See that’s the trouble Jim, you can’t delay gratification!
This is exciting news! I have heard alot about these beers, but have yet to acquire them. You would think that since I’m in the Philly/South Jersey area, that at least the Victory and Dogfish Head versions would be easy to find. I’ll let you know when I track them down.
Thanks for the updates!
Cheers,
G-LO
Knock yourself out. Hope you like them.
when did they release the DFH version? There are still tons of the Stone version here in CO and i have yet to see the other two.
Good question – I haven’t seen the DFH one yet myself.
I think they releasted it a couple months ago, but the fanfare was probably drown out by Sam’s announcement of his hosting the new Discovery Show Brewed.

There main page says it just started hitting wholesalers.
Aha! thanks, Matt. I wish I had the Internet so I could Google, too. 🙂
