Avery Brewing makes it official! After announcing back in January that they were going to be developing a canning line, their first brew is being canned today. Joe’s Premium American Pilsner is Avery Brewing’s first beer in a can. But it won’t be the last. Take a look at their can warehouse! …
Looks like there is at least six different kinds of cans here, so it would look like they have plans to jump in with both feet. It also looks like they have some new kinda can holder technology too. Look at the tops of these cans. Suppose those are six pack holders? Maybe it is some sort of closing lid to keep pests away? Who knows, I just think its cool. Have a look.
I am very excited, because Avery has been very good to Idaho, so I’m thinking I will again have great beer in cans available to me very soon! Take that Oskar Blues!

I agree Brandon, I can fit so many more into the beer fridge! That is important on almost every level. BTW I smoked the Oliva V and the 5 Vegas over the weekend. the Oliva was great…right up my alley. the 5 vegas was a bit too heavy and resinous for my liking.
The Oliva V is a great cigar! It’s also pretty reasonable price-wise.
I have a Churchill at home. Maybe this weekend if it isn’t too damn hot outside!
I am guessing that we’ll get some cans here in Jersey as they distribute their other beers here. I am really looking forward to it as I love their beer; had Salvation last weekend and it was so good!
I think Joe’s is a new beer for them. I guess that is only fitting that they release a new beer for their first ever canned offering. I went to their web site yesterday, and while we get a lot of their beers here, there are several we haven’t gotten, so I am hoping several of those will be going into cans and headed this way! Here’s to hoping. 🙂
I’ve loved or at least appreciated everything I’ve had from Avery. Then going to cans is a big deal for me. I’m stoked. Hopefully like you say, we’ll get some here in NJ.

I cannot comment on whether or not Avery produces good beer. I have yet to sample the fruit of their labor. 😦 But what I find amusing is the excitement generated by canned craft beer, myself included. I remember when Keystone Light was touting their “bottled beer taste in a can” meme.
Yeah, there’s definitely a novelty factor at work with cans. I’m amazed every time I have a can of Dale’s that something so good comes from a can.
I’m stoked I can drink good beer at the beach and while floating down the river. Hell yeah!
I just realized that the headline for this post is exactly wrong, Don. Avery didn’t kick the can, they did just the opposite – they embraced it.
Really, This is what we’re reduced to Jim? Going back weeks and nitpicking each other’s post titles? Go do some work or something… 😉
I know it’s a little late commenting on this post, but I just discovered your guys’ blog. I’m lucky enough to live in Denver and am able to sample the local brews before the rest of the country. Joe’s is a crisp and hoppy pilsner that reminds me a lot of the small town beers I drank in Germany back in the early eighties. Leave it to Avery to perfect the pilsner in a can, there’s rarely a week that a sixer of their IPA isn’t in my fridge; it’s my favorite local IPA.

You are fortunate William to live in such a great Beer City/State. Jim and I went to the GABF last year for the first time, and I think we enjoyed trekking around Denver as much if not more than the GABF itself. Although that was a lot of fun too. I like your site as well. I like the diary nature of it, where you post only when you have something to say, unlike Jim and I where we both feel guilty if we don’t post every single day! There are days I would much prefer a more laid back approach, but that isn’t what we do. So…it is what it is. Hope you enjoy it.
