I had a totally craptastic day yesterday, so I did what any other red-blooded American would do – I bought alcohol. Lots of alcohol.
In this case, I was in the mood for stick-to-your-ribs big flavored beers, so I loaded up on Founders. I took one 4 or 6 pack of every kind they had on the shelf, and two 4 packs of Cerise, as I love that stuff and I’m not sure how long it’ll be around. Last night when I got home I had a Cerise and one of their Imperial Stouts, and I have to say that those delicious beers lifted my mood and made me feel much better.
So now my beer fridge is stuffed with Founders and it’s a great sight to behold. I guess you could say it was Founders Day, and Founders Weekend will soon be upon us. I also grabbed a couple of bottles of Dragon’s Milk, a Lakefront Bridge Burner, some Heresy and Insanity from Weyerbacher and, a 12 pack of Yuengling Lager for the lake. So I think I’m set for a while. I know my checking account thinks so.
So I have lots of beer options, plus all the leftover whiskeys from the Wild Turkey tasting we did last week. I’m also going to be spending some time with my pals from Manor House Brewing, so I might get to sample some of their treats as well (I’m not sure if you’re supposed to drink beer at a kid’s birthday party, but I’ll go on the record and say I’m all for it!).
How about you? Any plans that involve good food or drink? Have you snagged anything special at the shelf that you’ll be enjoying this weekend? As always, let us know below and have a safe and wonderful weekend!
I have beers from an Indianapolis Microbrewery and Brewpub: Oaken Barrel in my fridge but tomorrow is the annual Brew-Ha-Ha Festival supporting a theater group and I’m pouring at a table. Who knows what beers our distributor is hooking us up with, but I’m excited none the less!
Have a great weekend guys – love Founders.
Tamre
I’ve never poured at a festival before, but I think I’d enjoy it. It’d bring me back to my days as an ice cream scooper during the Peach Festival in Romeo, Michigan. Happy folks, crazy lines and I smelled like cobbler for a week. Good times.
Have fun, Tamre! I think your free samples are going to be better than the ones I got.
I’ve never poured before … I’m looking forward to it! We have our “Stall Crawl” (we do a bar crawl and rate the bathrooms, hand out an award, talk about our group) tonight which will make tomorrow interesting.
Our distributor World Class is amazing – I wouldn’t be surprised to get really rare super hoppy stuff. Just to stick it to the guys who think we’re a bunch of Framboise drinking girls who don’t know beer. 🙂
Hmmm. As usual, its up in the air with a decent assortment in the fridge. We did an exchange today and there’s Colette from Great Divide (saison) and The Hairy Eyeball (not sure what it is) from Langunitas that will likely make the cut.
Oh, I also picked up a sixer of Hairy Eyeball – it’s awesome, Scott. Be sure to drink it and maybe review it on your site for us, too. I’d love to see if you like it or if it’s too much. I think it’ll go right up to the line for you, but not over.
Lagunitas rules.
Not sure yet. Headed to Brewforia for lunch. Pretty sure I’m going to fill up a growler with Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale and bring it back for an office share. Never had it, but it sounds intriguing. I’m sure I’ll find other gems there, too. Also have a bottle of Rogue John John Juniper that I’m excited and a little scared to try.
I want to work with you Chad. As long as you don’t mind all the blogging and me bogarding your growler.
No problem Jim! You just have to move to Idaho. But hey, then you and Don wouldn’t have to get whiskey wasted over the phone anymore.
We’d probably kill each other if we both lived in the Boise area, either with beer, whiskey or our bare hands!
Not sure what the beer gods will bring this weekend – I have some stuff in the fridge but plan on hitting the store to pick up the something special that will make all that is wrong with the world right.
Well if the world’s just a little wrong, I’d go for beer. If it’s seriously bent, I’d refer to don’s post on the Top 5 Whiskeys for Noobs!
I’ll be sipping on some Magic Hat Wacko Summer Ale. I’ve also got a bottle of Dogfish Head Red and White that I’ve been meaning to try as well. Thinking about pairing it with a dram of Corner Creek Bourbon. It’s a little too hot for George T. Stagg this weekend.
The Red and White with a little bourbon sounds pretty good. I have some Founders Cerise, which is totally over the top with wonderful cherry flavor backed by pie-crust-like breadiness. I think I might pair it up with some Knob Creek and have a cherryfest! Thanks for the inspiration, Mike, and have a great weekend.
Jim – good to hear about the Hairy Eyeball. To the top of the list it goes!
@Mike – curious to what you think of Wacko when you have it. I thought it sucked pretty badly.
I think the Wacko is great for what it is, a light crisp refreshing summer beer. I think it has nice flavor for a lighter summer seasonal. I think too many summer seasonals try too hard with the lemon flavor which is why I prefer Wacko.
ahem…. You are correct…
