Alleluia Its FRIDAY! What You Drinking This Weekend?

So the Weekend is upon us!!  I thought it would never get here.  It’s been one of those weeks, a real grind just trying to make it to the other side of the week and a chance at some relaxation and recuperation.  My brother Jim will be heading to one of his favorite activities to do during the summer tonight.  Fabulous Friday at Cupsaw Lake.  They  load the cooler with beer (No glass allowed) so it will be Dale’s Pale Ale in cans, and go sit by the lake and I think they sacrifice small animals.  Actually, I just made that up, I’m really not sure what they do, maybe there is music, maybe a band, well I know there is a lake, so maybe the kids swim and the grown ups visit.  I don’t know but he really digs it.  And he will be diggin it this year with craft beer in a can!  His first time since he discovered the wonders of Oskar Blues, the all can brewery out of Longmont, CO.

I’m really not sure what is on the agenda for this weekend, but I’m sure it will include pruning or mowing or cleaning something.  Sunday, of course, is Father’s Day, but we don’t have any big plans either.  Probably some more of the same with some making of strawberry jam.  Well as you have probably read I indulged quite heavily last night in the Wild Turkey delights.  I’m thinking I will probably hit that again.  There was some really tasty stuff in there.  I’ve got a bunch of new beers to try as well.  I might even drag out a stout or two because our weather has been unseasonably cool with highs in the 60s and low 70s, and lows dipping down into the 40s at night.  Yes a stout is sounding good.  Oh, yeah I also have a North Coast Old Style Ale that would go great with the shishkebob I’ll be grilling Sunday night!

So how about you?  Any big weekend plans?  Are you getting taken anywhere for Father’s Day?  What will you be drinking?  As always we are interested so let us know!  And have a happy and safe Father’s Day Weekend.

That’s right, Fab Friday and I’m stoked. There’s music tonight by Gary Sheehan, a really talented singer and guitarist who plays very chill stuff. The weather is a balmy 85 degrees and they’re serving fried chicken tonight. It’s gonna be perfect.

Tomorrow, we’re planning on visitng a litter of Standard Poodle pups in PA, and if all goes well we’ll come home with a new member of the family. If all goes really well, we might squeeze in a side trip to Victory or Iron Hill brewing, as both are within 30 minutes of where we’ll be visiting with the pups.

And for Father’s Day I’m planning on marinading a pork loin in the Wild Turkey American Honey we sampled last night. It’s not great as a drink (too sweet for me) but it’ll make one heck of a glaze!

That’s about it. Everyone have a fun and safe weekend!

So really, no sacrificing of small animals???…

We save that for Torturous Tuesday, Don.

As it will be hot on the East Coast this weekend, the plan is to stick with the lighter stuff, like Southern Tier’s 2XIPA. I plan on hitting the store on my way home so who knows what else I’ll pick up? I do have Flying Fish’s Exit 6 (a rye ale), the latest in the Exit series in my sights as well as Saison du BUFF, the collaboration between Stone, Victoy and Dogfish Head breweries.

You’re lucky Rob. You can get the Saison du BUFF. I really hoped we might see the Stone version here, but no such luck. Is that the Dogfish Head version or the Victory version you have? I wish we had some of your heat. I also have a collaboration brew between Brooklyn Brewery and some German brewery and it is a black Heff. Sounded interesting enough to try. Plus I trust Brooklyn to produce something that is interesting but not in a bad way. I might just have to give that one a try too.

The Saison du BUFF is the Stone version – I haven’t picked it up yet but hope to this weekend. The Brooklyn-Schneider Hopfen Weisse is really really good. There are 2 versions – one brewed in Brooklyn the other brewed in Germany.

I forgot to mention that I picked up two De BUFFs yesterday as well. I can’t wait to check out this brew!

Not sure what I’ll be enjoying, yet. I do know that I’m taking Dad to Brewforia’s Father’s Day event. Rick is insisting the kitchen will be finished, fired up, and Belgian-style tapas will be available. So beer and good food is definitely on the schedule for Sunday.

I am currently craving a Schnieder-Brooklyner Hopfen Weisse. Had one a few weeks ago, and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Tapas sounds good. Good Tapas sounds great. I’m a sucker for small food!

Hmmm. Not sure yet. Like Don, there’s the requisite yard-work and then its up in the air. Maybe I’ll have my bottle of Brooklyn’s Sorachi Ace which sounds like an nice beer for Summer.

I need to get out in the yard myself this weekend. Actually, I should’ve been out there last weekend. Time to teach my slaves, I mean kids, how to use the power mower. Is four too young to start?

Sorachi Ace is a perfect beer for this warmer weather – had it last weekend…very nice.

ey Don, I think I found the “H” that fell off the title. ow the ell do you spell allelujah without the “H”?

      June 18, 2010 at 4:45 pm #

It is like I told you before, there are two accepted spellings! One with an “H” and one without. Consider the “H” invisible.

      • June 18, 2010 at 5:07 pm #

Don’t you mean consider the ” ” invisible?

We had Allagash White with our dinner tonight. I just checked the beer bin of the fridge and see LaTrappe Isid’or and Chimay Blue on deck for tomorrow. Happy Father’s Day, Dads.

I would have gone with the Chimay Blue. What did you choose?

Finished my Shorts brew over the weekend from my latest MI trip, below is in order from best to worst from what i drank.

Shorts 9th anv Blood Orange Wheat Wine
    Shorts Bellaire Brown
    Shorts Huma Luma Licious IPA
    Shorts Soft Parade

Talked to my Dad on Sunday and he said he enjoyed the Raging Bitch i sent him over the weekend. They really need to put RB on their yearly rotation as it is one of my favorite flying dog beers.

Wow, thats a lot of Shorts brews. This is a brewery I haven’t heard of. I am assuming it is a small Michigan brewery that doesn’t have a very wide distribution. Could you describe the bllod Orange Wheat Wine. Was it like a Wheat Barleywine flavored with blood oranges? Sounds interesting and complex.
