What Beer Would You Choose?

I was thinking about this today as I drove into work.  Many, many macro beer drinkers choose one beer.  I won’t even call it their “go to beer”, because it is all they drink, so they aren’t going to anything they have arrived.  They have made their choice and decided that whatever swill is theirs, be it Coors, Miller, Bud, you get my point.  They don’t really need to have a go to beer since their beer is always everywhere.  Think of it, when was the last time you couldn’t get a Bud.  I’ll bet you can’t recall.  I know I can’t.

One of the great things about being a craft beer drinker is the opportunity to have a wildly huge selection of brews to choose from.  No matter what your mood is, there is a beer for you.  If you’re hot, there’s a Pilsner, if you’re cold there is a Stout, if you’re frisky there is a Saison, and if you ar kicking back at a BBQ a nice IPA rounds everything out.  And that is just a few of the dozens of styles to choose from.

But what if you had to make an unthinkable choice.  Lets say that China took over the US and they said you could have any craft beer you wanted, but you had to choose your top 3, and all the rest were going to be burned to the ground.  Ooohh.  What would you choose then?  Hmmm?

Well I have made my choice, and as the new Chino-American Beer Czar you will have to live with New Holand’s Dragon’s Milk, Victory’s Helious, and Southern Tier’s Unearthly IPA.  That is all.

What if the choice was your’s? What three brews would you select for the last three you could ever drink?  Give it some thought and let us know in the comments.

    Well Great and Noble Comrade Beer Czar, I’m on board with Dragon’s Milk, but I’d scrap the other two and add Dale’s Pale Ale (my go to) and Southern Tier Oat. Or I’d just move to Canada.

      In this scenario China rules the entire world so there is no escape. I tried to go with three totally different styles, my Stouty Brother.

    Southern Tier Gemini;
    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale;
    Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout

    Not an easy task to pick only 3

      I like the pale ale idea, Sam Smiths is good, but I’ve had better, and have not had the Gemini yet. I’ll look for it. Thanks Rob have a great weekend.

        I didn’t want to be greedy and pick 2 from the same brewery because I would have picked Southern Tier’s Oat. Ask this question next week and I can guarantee that I will have different answers except for SN Pale Ale.

          Hopefully when the Chinese invade and they make you Beer Czar, you will be in a very good place for the rest of us. Let’s hope you aren’t on a light lager kick!

    1. Pisgah Brewing’s Baptista

    2. Caracole’s Nostradamus

    3. Heileman’s Old Style (since I’ve given up on the Cubs winning the World Series as a “last wish”, so I might as well drink the official beer of Wrigley.” Plus, I can use it to prep the glass for # 1 & #2.

    Now that I think of it, I think I will make that tonight’s line-up.

    Forever? Well, the Tsing Tao lager of course! That will get me points with the dear leader who would then allow me more beer choices which I will not disclose here in case you decide to tell the intelligence apparatus about what I’m really doing. Remember, some animals are more equal than others.

    Deschutes Black Butte Porter
    Bridgeport IPA

    You may be the Czar… but I am the Tsar. And I will fight this to the death.

    So far, I am glad that no one has selected Taedonggang.

      This surprises me somewhat Tex. See I would consider the Deschutes and the Bridgeport to both be serviceable brews. Nothing fancy but good go tos. I’ve never had the Live Oak, but I haven’t ever been big on the style. So I was thinking something really Big. Like if you were going to go with Deschutes that you mighs select something from their Brewer’s Reserve series like th Abyss or Black Butte XXI. As for Bridgeport , your Northwest Roots are showing through. Hmmm Not a Texas Beer in the bunch!
