WEEKEND UPDATE

I though I would try something a little different this week.  We always have our weekend post on Fridays, and I thought this week I would try something a little different.  Try stopping by anytime over the weekend to check in and let us know how things are going.  Did you have some great beer or whiskey you are just dying to talk about?  Let us know!  Are you drunk and want to type a message with slurred text, stop by we are always here for you.  Perhaps you just got kicked out of your house and need a shoulder to cry on!  We’re here for you!  The Beer and Whiskey Brothers will monitor the site over the weekend to see how everyone is doing.  Lets have a conversation that lasts two days!

I have a bunch of beers and a new whiskey I want to try this weekend.  Sunday night I have a throw down planned between three different coffee porters.  It should be a blast!  So don’t be a stranger this weekend!  Drop us a line and let us know how things are going in your world! Then we can all get back together this Monday and do it all over again!  Have a great weekend everybody, and don’t be a stranger!  Drop by and tell us about it…

I’m sitting here until I go to work. I have to work during the Colts game, which is a real source of irritation.

That sucks. I won’t see it either. My son has a Basketball game.

I have to work tomorrow during the Jets game, and there’s supposed to be an ice storm. Terrific.

I’m drinking a Wolaver’s Organic Coffee Porter, and I’ve come to the realization that all coffee beers are not the same; some are Starbucks and some are Maxwell House. Or in this case, Folgers. Ho hum.

Sorry you didn’t get to see the game live yesterday JIm. It was a defensive struggle, and the Jets won out. It was actually a boring game for the spectators, I guess unless you were rooting for one of the teams. Kinda Ho Hum otherwise. Anyway, your Jets have made it to the AFC Title matchup against the Colts. I’m thinking it might just be too much to expect they will win that game, unless they decide to bench Manning again, just for nostalgia.

Didn’t like the Wolavers? I haven’t tried that one, but just completed a three beer, coffee porter throw down that I will write up later this week. I like the style, but some pull it off better than others.

@Jim, you didn’t like the Wolaver’s? A bit more of a burnt-coffee flavor, but think of all the kids that have a job now. Obviously you didn’t see the flavor crystals. 😉

I’m happy that I can sleep late tomorrow, and have no reason whatsoever to leave the house! On the beer front, so far I’ve had the Long Trail ‘Winter White’ from their Brewmaster Series (yum) and who knows whats next!

I’m picking the ‘Boys, and the Jets to win tomorrow. (today?)

Scott: well you got half your predictions for Sunday correct. I was hoping that the Vikings would do what they did, but i wasn’t confident that they would be able to handle the Cowboy’s like either offensively or defensively. This tells me there isn’t another team in the league that can beat them, except themselves. The Long Trail sounded yummy. Friday night I had a New Belgium Blue Paddle Pilsner. It tasted just like Bud Light but without the full body flavor! I’d stay away from this one. Also had a three beer throw down between three different coffee porters. It should be fun to write about.

Drinking the Long Trail Brewmaster Series Imperial Porter at the moment – coffee with hints of toffee and a nice blend of malt and hope. Definitely a winner! I had the Westmalle Tripel on Friday night – it was good but not as good as I was expecting. I’ve always read great things about Westmalle and how some consider it to be the model of Trappist ales. I’ll have to try it again sometime to see if my tastes were just off the other night.

You know that isn’t a bad idea Rob. I’ve had whiskey that I thought wasn’t great or as good as people say, then I go back to it a few weeks or a month later, and it is really great. That happened with me on the Van Winkles 12 year old Lot B. It was just sort of ok the first time, and the second it was good, but not great, and the third time was outstanding. Id give the Westmalle another try. The Long Trail stuff sounds delicious. I’ll have to look for it.

I have a bottle of the Brewmaster Series Imperial Porter as well. I think Jim reviewed here awhile ago actually. The Winter While I had was excellent – perhaps one of the best Weisbiers I’ve tried. Looking forward to trying the imperial porter even more now!

Yeah, the Cowboys got destroyed. Their cheerleading squad would have done better. The Jets pulled it off, but I think its the end of the road for them now. Sorry Jim, it was a really good season. Imagine the irony if the Jets were able to beat the Vikings though?

What would be supremely Ironic is if the Jets beat the Colts, since it was the colts that let them into the playoffs by benching their starters in the first place. You know you couldn’t write this stuff! It’s awesome. Just picked up a couple IPAs the Southern Tier Unearthly IPA and Hop Henge by Deschutes. Also picked up another of the coffee porters I’ll be reviewing this week, because it was so tasty!
