Of Mice and Men and Beer

Of Mice and MenOne thing Steinbeck taught us is that our plans often do not come to fruition.  This weekend was a mixed bag for me, on the one hand I had a couple of great drinks, and on the other hand the sports stuff really didn’t go my way.  The Vikings finally lost their first game.  Two fourth quarter defensive touchdowns by the Steelers made sure of that.  Both my kids lost their final football games too.  But my youngest won the award for most improved, and my Packers roasted the Browns!  Sorry to our Ohio brethren.

On the up side, drinking wise this was a productive and tasty weekend for me!  Friday night after my kid’s 56 to 0 loss on the football field, I cracked open a Dogzilla Black IPA from Laughing Dog Brewery in Sandpoint, Idaho, and it was great!  Hoppy, Caramel and coffee notes with a final fresh hop infusion, It was creamy, complex and delicious!

Last night as I watched my Giants loose their second game in a row I opened up a bottle of Old Fitzgerald 1849, 90 proof, 8 years old and bottled in 2003!  It was great, sweet and smokey with dark fruits and a refined wheat finish!  What’s more is I can’t even get it in Idaho, it was a gift from a friend in Conyers, GA!  I will be posting about both soon!

So how was your weekend?  Up and down like mine, all up, all down?  Let us know.  Did you find something you were really happy with, did you brew something that was great?  Give us the 411 about your weekend here!

Had quite a night of drinking on Sat in Rochester NY at the Tap and Mallet. I think I drank a full spectrum of beer: Brooklyn Bitter(cask), Six Point Sweet Action Blonde Ale, North Coast ACME IPA, Landmark Vanilla Bean Brown Ale, Schlenkerla rauchbier marzen, Wagner valley oatmeal stout (a palette cleanse after the smoke beer), Ichtegem grand cru, Victory Golden Monkey, and wrapped up with a Cantillon Kreik and a cab ride to the hotel.

Sunday took me on a excursion to Beers of the World. Beer upon Beer every where the eye could see… heaven! Stocked up on some beer (like I didn’t have Enough) And my Pats kicked some Tampa Bay ass!

I’m surprised you were able to get up Sunday Morning! That sounds like a great array. I saw your pics of the Beer world! Impressive!

The Creators of the Beer & Whiskey Brothers (our mom and dad) were in town this weekend, so that switched up the pattern a bit.

I still managed to sample a few great beers, including a Founders Breakfast Stout (very tasty) and a Victory Wild Devil Ale, which is their Hop Devil IPA brewed with Brettanomyces yeast, creating a delightful twist on an already great beer. My wife also picked up a Dogfish Head 90 four pack, which is always good.

Probably couldn’t get the 120. I heard those were selling for $10 per small bottle and were either pre ordered, or only available at the brewery.

The 120 is the best of them! Spend the 10 dollars or have jim spend the 10 dollars and send you one. they are plentiful in NJ.

it’s $8.00 out here. I guess it pays to be closer to the source! Maybe when you come visit again I’ll spring for one. It’s only been like 10 years, right? 🙂
