This looks amazing! Are you going Jim?

    • February 19, 2010 at 1:17 pm #

I’m hoping too. The catch is Caryn (my soulmate and DD) doesn’t eat fish (allergies) so it might be a tough sell.

        DD?

JIM, My wife also has fish allegies. You can request a veggie alt when you buy the tickets. (FYI)

Cool. I’ll let her know. I think she’s leaning towards yes, but our youngest is turning 4 right around then, so we need to look at the budget. What’s more important – a 4th birthday party and presents, or beer, wine and food?! Hmmm…it’s close!

Designated Driver. And the other kind, too. 😉

Peter is a mentalman and a scholar.

And he knows how to throw a party!

Thanks for the post Jim! Funny how your post has like ten times the comments as mine… I think I’m gonna cry 😦

Hope to see you there. It was fun helping put this together and I get to be one of the judges.

It’s mostly Don and I prattling on, Peter. You should get a partner on your blog to antagonize you as well. Good times, good times.

Oh, I posted some jibber-jabber on Peter’s site about trying to be a judge… I’m pretty sure I have the credentials…

I just have to keep bribing Cellar Master Pter, Imperial Prince of Hops for that spot…

I love the idea of loading up the panel with beer guys. I think I’d like the outcome best that way…

    @ Jim

I actually have, in possession, my Certificate as a Sommelier. Lots of studying and drink–I mean tasting…

    I’m not just a beer guy…

    • February 19, 2010 at 5:30 pm #

I understand that, but I’ve seen a lot of the bottles stored under your desk and don’t recall any of them holding wine. I’m sure you know your wine, but I know you love your beer!

And…uh..I’m quite sure you can be totally impartial in this instance…

      • February 19, 2010 at 8:49 pm #

Ahh Jim, what were you doing under Kevin’s desk???

        • February 19, 2010 at 9:29 pm #

I knew someone would ask that, but not you, Peter.  For you have seen the riches that lie beneath the Formica countertop as well.

Still, I guess I set myself up for that one, eh?

I’m slowly starting to dig things out from under the desk… Last night, the results of my mining expedition under there turned up a Sierra Estate, a Rogue Yellow Snow IPA, a Rogue Tracktown Ale, and a Stone Vertical Epic 080808… mmm…

Needless to say, I’m hurting just a little bit today…

You gotta let us know what the Vertical 08/08/08 was like. Once you got the age on it was it as amazing as you had hoped?

Oh, I can be impartial… When I was getting my certification, beer was just starting to take off. For years, the BMC beers were all that was readily available, with the green European bottles having the stigmata of always being “skunky.” Some people still won’t drink beer from a green bottle…

Lots of strange turns in the comment section! Always a good time here!

Great job Peter, I’m sure it will be a great success!

I’d also like to say not only great Job Peter, but for a great cause. It is a good thing you are doing on so many levels Peter. Very Inspired! Thanks for putting together something that will no doubt raise a lot of funds for earthquake relief.

It was pretty damn good! I almost can’t wait for the end of the run, 121212… it should be a vertical tasting of epic proportion!

Don, if you’re referring to what the Mayans predicted, let me ask you something: “Where are the Mayans now?”

    • Don
      February 20, 2010 at 4:09 pm #

You know when you think about the whole epic vertical plays off of the Mayan calendar, where the earth is supposed to end on 12/12/12 because the Mayans didn’t have a way to get the date past that time. This is also the origin of the “unlucky” number 13. It is nonsense, and why would I listen to an ancient civilization that couldn’t figure out how to count to 13? Doesn’t seem to make any sense. Oh well it gives people something to debate about. I’m sure I will be here on 12/13/12 to ask you how the vertical epic party was.

        February 20, 2010 at 4:20 pm #

And I’ll be able to wish my mother a happy birthday, too!

Did the Mayans have 6 fingers on each hand? I mean, how do you end up not being able to count past 12…?

        • Don
          February 20, 2010 at 4:45 pm #

I couldn’t say. Say happy birthday to your mom from Jim and me too!

        February 20, 2010 at 7:00 pm #

        HAHA! GOOD ONE!

Although, mentioning AA on a website dedicated to beer and whiskey…

Yeah you’re right I shouldn’t have done that. Bound to happen from someone with my AA. (Advanced Age)…
