Last week I puffed out my chest and crowed about how I received a box of free beer from Schalfly.  Among those bottles was one of my favorites: their amazing Reserve 2008 Imperial Stout.  I can get the 2010 around here, but the 2008 is all gone.  Or so I thought.

Thanks to the “miracle” of social media, we are constantly pumping information into the datasphere, much of it personal in nature.  One clever fella, Scott Golder, a graduate student from the Social Dynamics Lab at Cornell, has taken some of that information and put it to interesting use. 

I posted a couple a week ago about how there’s really only one pumpkin ale that I love – Southern Tier’s Pumking.  We can now officially make that two, as after finally getting to taste it, I am head-over-heels in love with Schlafly Pumpkin Ale. 

Look what was waiting for me when I got home last night – a fine selection of Schlafly beers, all courtesy of my new best friend Troika Brodsky, Communications Director at Schlafly. 

The past year has seen a proliferation of excellent beers available in cans, which offer many benefits to the consumer and to the environment.  But one thing cans don’t offer is the elegance of a bottle, and that’s at the heart of why Dogfish Head has no plans to can their beers.
