Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of YUM!

Argh, Ye Mateys!  Listen up, I’m gonna tell you a tale of adventure and debauchery on the high seas!  Twas a lovely evening when the pearl set out to do a little sailin’ and some plunderin’.  The crew was well rested from some much deserved shore leave and drinkin’ and fornicatin’ the previous evenin’. After a good days sleep and some grub we checked the riggin’ and set sail wherever the wind and sea might take us.  That mornin’ we hadn’t seen, because we were all sleepin’, but the sun come up a blood red, and I’m here to tell ya the pirate’s saying was right “Red skys in the morn sailors be warned!”  But we were all too drunk to heed that warnin’ so we set out, none the wiser.

Stormy seas were abrewin’ so we thought we would anchor up off the coast of Skull Island. Tis a small island not on any of the navigational maps but tis a good place to ride the storm out and mingle with the natives.  They’re usually friendly, but this night they were actin’ strange and much to our own personal discomfort we soon come to understand their plight…

They were dancin’ around a cauldron, that upon further inspection was actually a barrel.  We asked them what had brought them to this state of flailin’ and carryin’ on.  They dipped a mug into the barrel and came out with a brew. A beautiful brew with a full head and orangy color. Twas a warrrrm evenin’ so we got to drinking this intoxicatin’ ferment.  Twas quite nice. A well balanced drink with some hops and caramel flavors with a malty finish which lingerrrred on ourrr palates.  Had a very creamy feeling in the mouth.  Would go good with a steak we thought.  Mighty drinkable brew it was.

Well we got to drinkin’, and joined them in their dance which lasted into the wee hours of the morrrnin’.  Along the way one of the crew asked how was it that they made this brew?  Well you see this is where it gets stranger and stranger.  Seems there are the bones of a dead rogue in the drink.  That must be how they get that extra kick of flavor.   They even named the place they make the brew after him…Rogue Brewery off the coast of Newport, Oregon.  They named the brew after his bones…Dead Guy Ale!

Well we woke up and the storm had passed and the seas had calmed, but I couldn’t get the crew to go to the Pearl!  See those bones must have bewitched the brew, and now all they want to do is drink and dance and make general merriment.  Whats a Pirate to do??  Shiver me timbers! ARRRRGHH!

Quite a salty post, Don! Arrghh!! I used to drink Dead Guy Ale pretty often, until I discovered Stone Arrogant Bastard. The two are very close in taste, but the Stone strikes me as a touch sweeter, which I prefer. Plus it’s less expensive, and better and cheaper is what America’s all about!! Right?

I had my first Arrogant Bastard Ale a couple nights ago in Lewiston, ID. It was the only decent brew they had available in singles. I took it over to my buddy’s room and we drank it while we watched a movie about wind shield wipers on HBO. It was good, I like the hops, and I found it a little more high octane than the Dead guy. Both very good.

Where were you at in Lewiston, ID to get the ‘Arrogant Bastard Scottish Ale’? It’s hard to find the good stuff around here!

Found it at Safeway. It was one of about 5 craft beers they had.
